LP/HP Problem (no audio)

Post by dualaud » Wed Oct 24, 2012 2:04 pm

Hey all,
I will keep this short.
Please excuse the tabular list of the issue...

Setup:
Voyager Select Series
Operation System 3.5

Done:
Factory Reset
Factory sound reset

Test Patch: A1-I'm Ba-aack!!

Phenomenon:
Headphone out: Sound only on one side
Audio Output Left: Audio as expected (?)
Audio Output Right: No Audio, only high pitched whine (gets lower in volume when I turn down the backlight)

Now I switch:

Mode Switch to HP/LP
Result:
Headphone Out: No sound, only high pitched whine depending on backlight setting
Audio Output Left: No sound, only high pitched whine depending on backlight setting
Audio Output Right: No sound, only high pitched whine depending on backlight setting

Now I go into Edit/Filter Pole Selection:

Setting Filter A x Pole to
x=4: no change (only high pitched whine depending on backlight setting)
x=3: no change (only high pitched whine depending on backlight setting)
x=2: Sound on both audio outputs of Audio Output and Headphone Output
x=1: different sound on both Audio Outputs and Headphone Output (pole setting changes sound accordingly, as far as I'm concerned)

Setting Filter B x Pole to:
no change in any setting (x=1, x=2, x=3, x=4)

Now I switch

Mode Switch back to LP/LP

Headphone out: Sound only on one side
Audio Output Left: Audio as expected (?)
Audio Output Right: Only high pitched whine (gets lower in volume when I turn down the backlight)

Now I go into Edit/Filter Pole Selection:

Setting Filter A x Pole to
x=4: no audio on Audio Output Right and only on one channel of Headphone Out (only high pitched whine depending on backlight setting), Audio Left has normal output
x=3: no audio on Audio Output Right and only on one channel of Headphone Out (only high pitched whine depending on backlight setting), Audio Left has normal output
x=2: Sound on both audio outputs of Audio Output and Headphone output
x=1: different sound (pole setting changes sound accordingly) on both audio outputs of Audio Output and Headphone output, Audio Left has normal output

Setting Filter B x Pole to:
Any change in x has a corresponding change in filter pole of Audio Output Left, as far as I can hear.

This unit is just over one year old, has been on for roughly 15 hours and did not leave the studio.
It has the VX-351 output expander adapter installed inside.

Where do I go from here?
Thank you for your ideas.

One of the two filters is defective (it has happened to other forum members too). Since it's just slightly over the one year warranty period, contact Moog Music and explain the issue. They're usually very understanding in situations like this...

Note: the fact that the output of the headphones is reversed relative to the audio output is a well known fact about all Voyagers, and does not contribute to the underlying problem.

Good luck.

What was the outcome of this problem?

I just discovered that I have exactly the same issue. I normally just use the mono output through my amp and I didn't discover this problem until I put on headphones yesterday. I have no idea when it started.

Did Moog replace some components for you?
