Freqbox FM Type?

Post by sloth713 » Tue Apr 01, 2014 3:37 am

Just out of curiosity what type FM does the Freqbox use, linear or exponential?

Also is it capable of through zero FM? I assume it can't but I would not mind being told that I am wrong.

It is a linear VCO since you can feed it V/Oct and track a couple octaves. Some people have tuned their freqboxes (inside) to track a better range than that, but that is beyond my experience.

The Frequency range of just the freq knob starts at about 25Hz and goes up 6 octaves to 1.6 kHz according to the manual.

If you use the expression pedal inputs the manual says you can go sub audio up to 20 kHz. I am guessing you may be able to dial in what you want if you could create the right control voltage, but there could be limitations since it wasn't designed to be a through zero oscillator.

As just a VCO, it is useful but very limited. It does have some cool features like CV over waveshape. It was made with syncing audio to the oscillator in mind, so it is better at mangling audio signals.
