How does Phatty Line Compare to Voyager?
How does Phatty Line Compare to Voyager?
I know the Phatty Line and Voyager are different and have different sound, etc. I'm not asking for which is better, just what are the differences. The Voyager seems most expensive, does it have the most flexibility compared to a SubPhatty for instance?

Biggest difference is probably the filter section. Voyager has two filters which you can configure in a variety of ways, yielding a bandpass filter or parallel lowpasses, while the Little Phatty and Sub Phatty have filter overdrive and multidrive, respectively. The overdrive on the Little Phatty can get a bit more aggressive and squaky with resonance than the Sub, but the Sub's multidrive is, to my ear anyway, smoother in the lows and highs and generally more versatile throughout the range.
Other than that, the big differences are mainly in the modulation sections with the Voyager providing much more extensive options than either of the Phatties, mainly because you can repatch things on the back panel. Though I suspect the Sub 37 might change that with its 2 lfos.

Don't forget the third full-range Oscillator in the Voyager.
That's a pretty big difference...

Nothing else Moog makes compares to the Voyager. It's the flagship for a reason. Not only in its luxurious and sexy build quality, but with the CP and VX, it's flexibility is unparalleled. I have 2 slims, a Sub and a Voyager. You just don't get that flexibility with the others in terms of complexity.

I am owning a Voyager for years and now a Sub Phatty since last year.
To me the sound of the Sub Phatty sounds more like my Minimoog I own since 30 years than my Voyager. But you need to adjust the levels and distortions on the Sub Phatty. And the Sub Phatty get this nice bass sound my Moog Prodigy (30+ years here) got.
But when it comes to modulation possibilities and performance, the Voyager is the best. Those two modulation busses plus the hidden sources and destinations hidden in the menues allow serious modulations you may only get from digital synths or small modular systems. And the pot-mapping adds additional modulation possibilities like keyboard on envelope decay. And the two filter may be used as bandpass. And this is not seen that often Moogs.
All in all, the Voyager is a top rank monophonic synth. Pricy, but a real well made instrument to be used in studio or live. And looking beautiful in its wooden and metallic housing.

keep on turning these Moog knobs
