Resonance working strange on Sub Phatty

Post by Raizerpiano » Mon Feb 17, 2014 9:01 pm

Hi everyone. My SubPhatty is driving me nuts!!!
Today I tried to make that Hi Hat sound from the moog video, the one about percussion, and it was impossible. I haven't had any moog experience before I bought mine, so I might be missing something. The fact is that I cannot alter the noise generator timbre with the resonance knob at any given level, specially at the high cutoff frequencies. The noise just fades a little in volume an then self oscilation comes in mixing itself with the noise that got lower in volume. In fact every sound that I pass through resonance does only modify sound gently with the cuttof frequency in any spot (low or high). On the percussion video I saw that the guy was altering the noise pitch a lot just by moving the resonance knob and this can not be done by me. If anyone could explain this to me I would appreciate. I did that Hi Hat patch on the percussion brochure but, again, the sound that I've got for sure was not even close to a Hi Hat. Thanks!.

have you tried to calibrate your Sub phatty? Also make sure you've set the pole to the correct one in the sub menu. You have to get the under the hood parameters correct.

A recommendation concerning your post ~
Most folks on this forum are probably going to think of the Slim Phatty when they see "SP" in a thread title, since that's the abbreviation used in the Moog manual, long before the Sub Phatty even existed.

You might get more responses concerning the Sub Phatty if you used "Sub" instead of "SP" ... :)

Thanks Stuka, title changed!
Hi Waza, the filter was indeed with the wrong pole setting and it made a difference. I then did the calibrating procedure and this time it took longer than the last time, which was a month ago. After it had completed the resonance got a little "better", but I can't still get even close to the percussion sounds on the video. In fact I started asking myself if this was any worth? Starting to think it isn't, because I managed to get a different sound that in fact made me happy and that is what matters, isn't it?

yip as long as your happy with the end results that's all that counts. remember their might be some slight different characteristic with each moog. i've seen the video but never tried to recreate the sound, might do this later today to see what i get, but i'm more than happy with my moog as it's running sweet with the editor....
