Can Minitaur make sounds by itself?

Post by BWaye2112 » Wed Aug 28, 2013 5:54 pm

Hi I'm new to the forum and just received my new minitaur today, and I have it at work and would like to learn a little bit about how to use it in between calls, however I don't have a midi controller with me, and i am not able to use the computers here for that purpose, so is it possible to preview sounds with headphones just right off of the minitaur without anything to trigger them? I probably sound like a noob, I've had experience with a lot of digital synths but I haven't owned any real analog gear yet, so if someone could help me out with this question it would help me greatly, thank you! And glad to be here.

AFAIK, there are no secrets in that department... gotta send it some kind of a signal via midi or midi/usb.

I just discovered that if you press the shift key on your keyboard while you have the editor open it will audition a note. I'd love to change it to a different note, but there you go.

You can also "drone" the Minitaur using the CV inputs, but that is not exactly a portable solution.

If you own an iPad or iPhone, the easiest and most portable solution would be to get an iOS MIDI interface, hook it to the Minitaur using a MIDI DIN cable, and control the synth using one of the numerous MIDI controller apps or synths currently available.

To get the minitaur droning, is it also possible to insert a 5v power supply to the GATE input?

Or is this nonsense?

You can get it droning by opening the gate, either with CV, or if you have the newer firmware installed, you just hold down the glide button, then turn the amp sustain all the way down then all the way up. To close it, hold glide again and turn the same knob all the way down again.
