Filter cutoff frequency control via CV with a BOSS FV-50H

Post by Raizerpiano » Thu Jan 09, 2014 9:32 am

Hi there, I was just wondering if it is possible to use a Boss FV-50H as an expression pedal for controlling the filter cutoff frequency. I imagine that it is possible to accomplish this using a Y type insert cable (dual TS > TRS), being both TS coming out of the dual Output on the pedal and the TRS on the Filter CV input, but I am not sure if the pedal's high impedance will draw to much current from the Sub Phatty CV circuit and damage it. If you have had the opportunity to test this, please advise? Thanks!

I use a FV-300 H or L and it's ok. TRS to TRS should work with the little brother.

Any other experiences?

Hello all, I have just tested the Boss FV-50H and it works fine. The only way it works is with a Y type inset cable. A regular TRS/TRS cable does not work at all. The way I connected it is by plugging the TRS on the CV input on the SP and one TS on the pedal's Input and another TS on the it's output. Although it works fine for all four CV inputs I preferred to control the filter and volume by hand while I am playing, so I decided to plug it to the KB Gate input and use it to trigger the envelope when I need it (at the pedal's lowest position), this way I can filter a guitar sound through the SP without the need to press any keys on the keyboard. Nice! As said on the SP manual it says there that you can use a regular cable to trigger the envelope as well, but I reckon it is best to just stick a TRS 1/4" to TRS1/8" to this jack to keep the envelope triggered if you do not have an expression pedal, but having one helps to start and stop the envelope without unplugging. A normal on/off switch should work also for this. I hope I have not gone off topic. Have fun!
