hard sync + osc2 freq. automation?

i am trying to automate the sub phatty 's osc2 frequency with hard sync ON ( from 0 to +7 ) but the result i get is kind of steppy...is this normal?

Are you doing a slow modulation? Hard sync can sound a little 'steppy' as the different frequencies are accentuated. It's not as noticeable when you do it fast...

you are right... it is a slow modulation across 10 seconds. Hmmmm is there a way to achieve this effect smoothly?

Hello,
I wonder if anyone can explain this to me:

on the sub phatty when you do hard sync, and create frequency/wave_forms shorter/higher on OSC2 than on OSC1, the OCS2 cuts out. Sounds crap, but makes sense, because the wave form could not complete so it's not vibrating. No Vibration = No Sound. It's event documented in the manual.

So how come is does not happen on the little/slim fatty? No combination of Wave Shape and Freq Offset, seems to mess it up, higher foot length are totally less expressive but still no cut out.

It's really hard to carve though the sound space of this knob, when it might just drop out, and especially if there is a slow Mod to it, is may drop out when you not even touching it.

Can you explain this?

The osc2 frequency will pass down through the osc1 frequency only if both are set on the same foot. Is this the case ? I'm surprised this doesn't happen...

me too. On the Sub the only way to be safe is to only use +tive Frequency Offesets AND make sure these is a one step higher foot setting or more on OSC2 from Osc1. Or go two step higher and you can use negative offsets too.

While on the Slim/Little:
If they are on the same foot (16') you can get a nice sound out of just the sync Osc2 for all Frequency offsets and all wave shapes. With OSC1 at 2' and OSC2 at 16' (worst case) you get some very weak spots and even a small silent spot if the you have low FREQ, and SQUARE Wave Shape.

Can't figure how it does it but i like like it!. (ps, I love to tweek this knob)

Note I'm only listening to OSC2,
I really don't like the way the sub phatty does it. The little/slim phatty behaviour is more playable.

The theory is: you can obtain classi sync sounds as long as OSC2 frequency is higher than OSC1's. So for identical foot settings, provided the frequency offset is positive, you are supposed to get them. I'll check on my guitarist's SubPhatty (mind you!!) tomorrow night.

You said before: the synced oscillator, aka OSC2, doesn't have enough time to run through its whome cycle before being restarted by the reference oscilltaor, aka OSC1. This results is a signal whose fondamental pitch is the same as the OSC1's and whose generated waveform is jsut the start of the one it would produce without being synced. Here, the waveform setting is crucial.
