"hardware disconnected" on Ableton live 9 with sub phatty
"hardware disconnected" on Ableton live 9 with sub phatty
hi guys,
Ive read about this problem in the beta-thread of the software, but I havent found a solution.
The standalone-version of the Editor/librarian for the Sub phatty works fine (over usb-cable), but I cant get the vst-plugin running with live 9, I get the Hardware disconnected error.
Im really gettin mad at the moment, cause Ive bought this synth because of this softwarefeatures, and now ist not working. If theres a solution, PLEEAAAAAASEEEE help me out!!!

Re: "hardware disconnected" on Ableton live 9 with sub phatt
Hi,
I was part of the beta test team and at that time I think I was maybe the only one that noticed that.
I have sent plenty of information to Amos at that time.
It seems that this is a common problem now but I have heard no news on when this will be solved

Re: "hardware disconnected" on Ableton live 9 with sub phatt
I have the same problem. I also use Live 9.
I heard of other people getting it working using both the USB-midi AND the DIN-midi in parallel. But that seems a bit of an unnecessary hassle.
I thought the VST editor was supposed to be loaded like any other VST and handle all midi to and from the DAW? Only difference being it requires an audio input. Is that a correct assumption?
It is really sad and would be great if it was fixed. As of now my Sub Phatty is gathering more dust than it should as i get somewhat annoyed every time i try using the VST.

Re: "hardware disconnected" on Ableton live 9 with sub phatt
For some people (like me) it does not work using DIN & USB in //.
I tried everything. There is just something wrong with the vst version. Standalone is fine.

Re: "hardware disconnected" on Ableton live 9 with sub phatt
I will try it with both USB + MIDI cables, I hope this will work. But its disappointing, I thought having only 16 Presets wouldnt be a problem, because I can save my sounds in my DAW. But now Im limited to these 16 Slots, this sucks
I am so happy with the sound of the sub phatty, but these software issues make me regret my decission to buy this synth, I hope they get this fixed...

Deto: Be patient.
I can't imagine Moog won't fix this.

Re: "hardware disconnected" on Ableton live 9 with sub phatt
Sorry, but Im an inpatient person, I cant change that
At least I got the VST-Plugin working with the additional MIDI cables, saving the soundpatch works, but now I cant record any automation from the knobs of the sub phatty.
Here's what I've done:
- Connected USB from sub phatty to computer, connected MIDI In and Out cables from sub phatty to my soundcard's MIDI ports
- I disabled the "sub phatty usb" in the MIDI-preferences of live, I selected this "sub phatty usb" in the VST-Editor as Input/Output
- on a MIDI-Track in Live 9 I used a "Externel Instrument"-plugin, set the MIDI-In of that track to the MIDI-In of the soundcard, MIDI-Out of the "Externel Instrument"-plugin also to MIDI-Out of the soundcard, and I set audio in to the soundcards input, to which the sub phatty is connected
- I put the VST-Editor right behind the "Externel Instrument"-plugin
- I switched off local control on the sub phatty (in shift mode), and set MIDI Input sel. and MIDI Output sel. to "both" (in shift mode)
So here's the problem:
When I turn a knob on the sub phatty, the VST-Editor follows accordingly, everything is fine till here.
When I record into a clip in session view, while moving a (physical) knob on the sub phatty, live is recording the MIDI notes I played and MIDI-CC data for the knob. When I press play after the recording, Live plays the notes, but not the automation of the knob! I can see the recorded Midi-CC-data, I can see that curve, but it seems like the sub phatty isnt listening to that data.
When I do the same recording in arangement view, the midi-notes will be recorded, but theres NO MIDI-CC-DATA at all!!! I dont get it.
And here comes the pain: When I turn the same knob on the VST-Editor (I dont touch the physical knob on the sub phatty) WITH THE MOUSE, the automation will be recorded correctly, and it will be played back correctly!!
So at the moment I cant use the sub phattys knobs, I have to do this with my computermouse, which isnt an option for me
Does this make sense to anybody??

Re: "hardware disconnected" on Ableton live 9 with sub phatt
Not sure about your midi cc issue. Looks like they are filtered at one point. Maybe try to reset the default settings of the Sub Phatty.
But the setup you mention is the one to get the vst working. For me it does not work

Re: "hardware disconnected" on Ableton live 9 with sub phatt
OK, after fiddling around I got it working. If somebody else has the same problem with automation in ableton live, here is what I have done:
After the steps described above, I used the MIDI map function of Live, to map the knobs on the sub phatty to the corresponding controls on the VST-Editor. From my point of understandig this should have worked out of the box, but it didnt. I expected this to generate new issues because of double mappings, but it seems to work, I can record and edit the knob movements like I would with any other VSTi.
Its not a clean workaround, but at least it works. Finally......

Re: "hardware disconnected" on Ableton live 9 with sub phatt
To get it to work with Live in Windows you need to make sure you have it connected by both USB and DIN MIDI.
Set up your Live MIDI preferences with:
INPUT "Moog Sub Phatty" OFF
INPUT "your MIDI interface" ON
OUTPUT "Moog Sub Phatty" ON
OUTPUT "your MIDI interface" ON
Set up the channel like this using the external instrument plugin output set to Moog Sub Phatty and SubP VST editor set to your MIDI interface in and out:

I had the vst plugin working for a while, but now it has stopped. Getting Disconnected hardware with the VST. The standalone is working for me.
For ableton / MaxForLive users.. I have found the following a workable solution;
http://www.maxforlive.com/library/devic ... idi-phat-2
At least until I can figure out why the VST stopped working.
