Voyager ATA Aluminum Case
Hi....does anyone here have this case? If so, do you know the weight and dimensions of it? I'm wondering if it's small enough to bring on a flight....
Thanks.
Thanks.
I have the case. It is not small. It weighs about 45 pounds (total weight 85 lbs.) and is built like a tank. The molded case is not small either but much lighter. I believe the molded case is longer but shallower. I think the aluminum case is wonderful. When packing my station wagon with loads of gear, the squared-off shape of the aluminum case is easier to fit in. There is no hestation to stack loads of gear on top of it. I believe it fits easier in my wagon than the the longer molded case. I would doubt seriously you could carry the V'ger onto a plane in the molded case. I would be a little worried about putting it into the plane's cargo, but I imagine in most cases it would survive. However, I would have no qualms about the V'ger being thrown into the belly of a plane while being protected in the aluminum case.
I hope this helps.

i began a thread like this 6 months ago. I decided on the Alum case to fly with my Voyager to San Francisco from Hawaii and back. I made the right choice. But, combined with the Voyager, the weight is like 88Lbs or something. I got charged $50 each way to take it along. It was still worth it.
I lock that baby up though in the cargo hold. They'll want you to leave it open, but just open it so they can see what it is, then lock it up again. I also think its good to cover up the MOOG logo. Its like a big Mercedes logo to a lot of musicians...it might get nabbed ... The thing just attracts a lot of attention from everyone you'll pass. Its big, black, shiny, and Moog. I guess its just intriguing. It fits nicely into a back seat of a car, or minivan or whatever. Is truly built like a tank.
