Basic cv and microbrute (or help a noob)

Post by jbl » Fri Nov 01, 2013 7:26 pm

Hello everyone,
I'm new to the forums and I don't have anything Moog yet. I was going to buy a sub phatty but as of yet can still not buy one in Japan.
I've also been tempted by the fooger line for quite some time. As for current cv gear; nothing really. I have a modded sidekick that has an open filter input and a volca beats but neither are really cv, right.
Well, I'm getting the new microbrute. I don't want a modular box. Instead I want pedals as I also play guitar. What fooger would you start with for the microbrute, why and how?
I love the delay but thought a cp-251 would be the most useful? Idk. Any ideas?
Thanks.

I own all of the MoogerFooger line, my favorite is the 103 Phaser, followed by 107 Freqbox, 108 ClusterFlux, 102 Ringmod, and 104 Delay. I wouldn't get a CP-251 right away, as you'll have LFO access with most of the MF pedals anyway. The Freqbox and the Filter give you Envelope Followers, though the CP gives you mults, mixers, S/H, lag, and attenuators.

Thanks Stephen. I just watched some videos on the mf-107, that one is rude!

To clarify, the microbrute has cv/gate, lfo and EG outs with six inputs on various functions like metalizer, pitch, etc... What pedal would take advantage of those ports the most. For one thing, I was looking at the ehx 8-step. The minifoogers are also to be considered but the don't have the cv connections, do they?

The 8 step is a powerful tool as it is, but if you use midi it's really a Swiss Army knife of control, one of those really wide ones.

The CP has the most tweak ability & inputs for CV. Useful, but it needs something to control.

Minifoogers each recieve 1 CV, but send none.

Af far as effects go, the moogerfoogers are great with CV. The ring mod is beloved for synths, as it does a fair amount of CV duties and a range of sound changing things. The phaser just sounds awesome. The delay is a blast Z or M. The others are all great at what they do.

We all have our favourites based on what we do... You wouldn't go wrong with any of them if you get to know them.
Vibration emanates from all things, even nothing. Using awareness to translate vibration into "music" is something that I am whole heartedly grateful for.
