Sub Phatty below 80hz
Sub Phatty below 80hz
My Sub Phatty Filter seems to give me a lower volume output when i go below 80 hz. Is that normal?
Re: Sub Phatty below 80hz
hi,
sounds like you dont have a Sub speaker running? if youre listening on NS10s then it would sure sound like things get quieter below 80Hz for sure....exactly what youre experiencing.
Theres a world of massive sub energy down there! just take a look on a Spectrum Analyzer

Try it with a good pair of headphones with 20-20,000 hz (or better) frequency response.

Thank you for the replies guys
I've tried it on a set of Focal monitors and my AKG 240 headphones but i'm getting the same result. Its like you turn the volume level down along with the filter. It shows on my mixer as well, the level goes way down.
Is this a problem with my filter?
any ideas?

Re: Sub Phatty below 80hz
There should be a big difference in low frequency volume between a square wave and a saw wave. I don't have a subph but it seems natural to me that if you filter out the high harmonics of a saw wave, the remainder frequencies will be lower in volume than the original sound before reducing the cutoff frequency. Try a square wave and see what you find. Use a spectrum analyzer as suggested above.
Can someone with a subph share their observations regarding volume reduction at low cutoff frequency settings?
