Guitar controlling a Minitaur

Post by jerryfie » Wed Jul 31, 2013 5:26 am

I had a set of Taurus IIs back in the 80s and now I've been using a Roland guitar synth setup for years (GR-09 then GR-30) and always wondered how a Moog would sound controlled in MIDI by one of those things but never could afford one until the Minitaur came along. I just bought it earlier this month and hooked it up to my Roland and to my Yorkville 100 w keyboard amp (I've been using a Godin xTsa 3-way so the keyboard amp is vital!) Anyway it works great and tracks way better than I thought, so very happy with my purchase and the huge Moog sound of course! Wish it could go higher than the C5 but I tune the MIDI out an octave lower on the Roland patches so it covers most of the fretboard that way. Great job Moog, really happy with this!

Well traded my MInitaur in for a Slim Phatty, more range for me as a guitarist but still the awesome lows!

Cheers.

MIssed the Minitaur too much, got it back and have both MInitaur and Slim Phatty now. Wonder if I can use both of them together in a duophonic fashion? I know you can chain Phattys but not sure about these two together, maybe program the Minitaur to play the lowest sound and the Phatty the highest?

Hi Jerryfie, welcome on the forum.

You will need something to dispatch your notes amongst several (two) MIDI cables or channels. My first idea is to try the polymode of the Phatty, though I don't know wether the Minitaur can handle that. Plus it definitely cannot manage higher vs. lower notes being dispatched on either one or the other MIDI way.

Other solution: the MidiPal from Mutable Instruments. Same here: don't about the dispatch options, but it's worth reading the manual :)
