CP 251B
CP 251B
i was just thinking about all the people on this forum who have said that the have bought more than one CP 251.
i can see why an extra 1 or 2 would be cool but not all of the functions require doubles (IMO)
like the sample and hold, who needs 2 sample and holds
someong mentioned having a moog 4 way multi unit with multiple multis, why not release a CP251B that replaces the S+H with another multi or other module, could have a simple VCA 3 jacks:
-in
-out
-CV

Re: CP 251B
Well, If you are using the the filter and the ring modulator for different applications, you could use one S+H for the Filter Cutoff and the other S+H for the Ring modulator's Frequency.godzilla wrote: like the sample and hold, who needs 2 sample and holds
I Think two CP251's would be very useful, but I do agree with you that Moog needs to build a new control processor...One with an EG, LFO, MULT, CV MIXER and MIDI capabilities, I.E. Syncable LFO's.
My 2 cents
I recommended that. It was a basic multiplier. Cram as many mults and 1 or 2 LFOs (hopefully 2) into a CP-251 box. Ezratrice was correct in saying that a patchbay can be used to make mults, but the LFO(s) are what would make that box work on the market. It could also be sold for significantly less than a CP-251.
If it only had 1 LFO, a MF's LFO could be used as the second or third or fourth LFO and there would be hella mults to go around. It could be a good low end product for people who don't need all of the CP-251 features or for someone new to CV synths to start from and work their way up. Anywho, that box would be zany. I hope it gets produced.

I would like to see more units to have the voyager go into a more modular context. An updated or second 251 would be great but I wonder if Moog could make one that would solve every moog lovers desires. If they were a larger company i would fully advocate Moog creating a system similar to the the old dbx 900 rack system. Basically, you purchase an empty rack and buy whatever modules you need. It would, of course, move away from the moogerfoger marketing strategy that Moog has invested in but none-the-less would be great.
You know, I never wish for more when I'm playing the voyager. Only when I'm not.
Everybody have a good weekend.

i was more going along the lines of:
the same CP-251 replacing the S+H with another function (which would hopefully lower the price) this would be a kind of "double up model" for people who already have 1 CP-251.
a completely new unit would be awsome! I don't think releasing more CP-251 style modules would harm the MF style moogerfooger units, I think it would add to their power and complete the whole moogerfooger line.
I sent off a design (not really a design just what the front panel would look like) of such a unit to Mike Adams (but he hasn't replied yet) the unit compiled:
- 1 VCO
- 1 12db LPF/HPF
- 1 VCA
- 1 EG
- 2 Attenuators
I thought it was a great design but who knows?

Re: nice.
Thanks.Rakuza wrote:I would DEFINITELY buy at least one of those if it was not too far off the current fooger prices.
That is a very nice looking design.
I don't think they'd be able to make it around the price of the MF-101, but maybe around the price of the 104Z? I think that they would be able to keep it under $1000, but if it went far over the price of an etherwave pro then it probably wouldn't be worth making.
