Ive been trying to figure out how I can use an expression to control my sub phatty's vibrato depth just like the mod wheel. When Im playing, my left hand is usually busy playing another synth so some kind of pedal would be my best option.
Has anyone done this?
How can i do it without breaking the bank for a cp-251? Midi? Dedicated vibrato pedal?
control sub phatty's vibrato depth with pedal?

Assuming you want to stay hardware-only, you could use something like this:
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MIDIPC/
The box is programmble, and lets you turn an expression pedal into just about any MIDI input.
You could use it to control any parameter of the Sub Phatty that is MIDI controllable.
If you have an iPad or iPhone running iOS 6 or later, you could use those along with an app called MIDI Designer and just about any MIDI-equipped controller (footpedal or otherwise) to create just about any control scheme you can think of.
Lots of options once you start adding MIDI to the mix...
But a CP-251 would still be good to have to open up some analog possibilities

If you troll Ebay/Craigslist long enough, eventually a DigiTech MC2 will show up for cheap. If you see two, get me one?

I wonder if the Sub Phatty can receive single CC messages into the USB port? If so, and the port provides power (possibly), this may be a cheap option:

If not, nevermind

It's not just about providing power -mckayallday wrote:I wonder if the Sub Phatty can receive single CC messages into the USB port? If so, and the port provides power (possibly), this may be a cheap option:

You need a USB host to plug into, like a computer, iPad, or something like iConnect MIDI
Keyboards, synth modules, USB midi controllers, etc. generally are not USB hosts -
They are USB clients, and need a USB host to plug into.
The USB connector on the free end of the device cable for your hardware is generally a pretty good indicator -
If the free end is a standard flat USB connector, it needs to plug into a USB host.
That pedal adapter is a client device -
To use it with MIDI hardware, both devices would have to be plugged into a USB host, and software configured to relay the MIDI data between devices.
