got my answer

One of the guys at Moog was kind enough to answer my question regarding the 104's inability to flange. It was explained to me that the 104 was designed to provide echoes - not flanging.

I've done a ton of looking around during the time that I couldn't get a 104, trying to find an adequate substitution. The prices of some that have feedback loops are $500- $750 (modcan, serge). Bruce at Modcan was nice enough to reply to a question regarding flanging. He sells a delay and a flanger - two separate modules for two separate purposes.

I have learned a ton about effects, etc. by looking around at all of these modular sites and forums.

So anyhow, I'm sure that I will be happy with the z. If I want to flange I'll just get a flanger (some day, not soon). Besides, the combination of flanging and delay sounds super cool. I'd have to have both anyway.

I also took interest in your post about flanging and yesterday I started playing around with my Ibanez AD9 and my Boss DM3, and I was able to get very descent flanging with either pedal or even a combination of both. I even compared the sound to my Ibanez FL9 (Analog Flanger) and I came pretty close. The Ibanez AD9 has a minimum delay time of 10ms, so its very easy to flange with it.

As far as the MF104Z, you might be able to get some fat Chorus sounds by setting the delay time to the minimum (50ms), set the Feedback to 0 or 0.5 and then use an LFO with very low amplitude to modulate the delay time.

Here is a link that you might find useful:

i don't know if this would actually work, i'm just making up a bunch of junk as i'm not really familiar with the mechanics behind flanging...but what if you used another delay pedal in conjunction with the 104, through the loop or whatever...each with its shortest possible delay speed...with the one delaying what's already been delayed there'd be an increase in speed...but i don't know if would need to be a more accurate "tempo" or what...whether it flanges or not i'm sure it'd sound pretty cool regardless...maybe the off-kilter speeds would make it sound even cooler...i don't know...i'll certainly find out whenever i get my 104Z...i already have two other delays anyway (one analog, one digital...) if anyone tries it let me know how it sounds...
