white perf, vs lunar impact? repaint back panel? WheelLight?
Hello,
It's been a long time coming, so some of you i hope will understand that, for some people, the appearance of these instruments that have been out of reach for so long, is really important! That said...
I am really torn between a white select (used...) or a white performer.
1) Am I right in thinking white performers have no lighting on the pitch and mod wheels, and the lunar impact do?
2) Is it difficult to add light to the mod wheels afterwards?
3) I'd quite like the 'wow' factor of the select series, but the all white facade is really important, so i suppose a second question is, has anyone tried to paint/recolour the panel area? Changing switches to white? Difficult?
Many thanks,

FWIW,
I think i'm narrowing this down.
IT seems the white performer comes with cool grey wheels as default, rather than translucent. Kinda spoils the look if you ask me...
I'd forgotten the facade is actually an adhesive rather than metal, so repainting etc is not an option.
So... hmmm. IS changing mod wheels from grey to translucent an easy thing if i can source the part? Seems like it should be...
Sorry if this is using the forum as thinking outloud, but having a hard time deciding between a select in white with all the lighting bling, and a straightforward (but more expensive!) performer in white.

Sounds like a hassle to me, changing wheels and stuff. Buy the one you're gonna be a proud parent of! I intended to get a Performer cuz I'm into the retro look, but it was out of stock for the low price I managed to get a deal on. The store offered me an ElectricBlue for the same price and I had to think about it for a couple of hours, having the feeling it was a little "too much", but now i'm really glad I jumped the occasion (is that even a saying?). TheVoyager is a modern synth and deserves a modern look

To me the looks of an instrument can't be underestimated. Sadly, but I listen withmy eyes to some degree. I just ordered a hardcase and together with that an MF-104M. The latter is 10-15% cheaper in white lunar, so I had to really think about it. I've got four foogers already with the standard looks, so a black MF-104M would fit best. On the other hand, a delay that would fit my Electric Blue made more sense in a modern/futuristic lunar white, that way the sound wouldn't get that retro feel with the wooden cheeks. I decided to go with the standard look since I like the appearences of a bunch of foogers on the wall that give hints to a Moog Modular. I know it's a petty question, but that's me

Well...glad i'm not the only one who obsesses over this.
I let the white select go by. I think i'm gonna go with the performer. Less to go wrong in the long term, and kinda suits my studio a little more than a flashier one i think.
Thanks!

FWIW, my 1975 Minimoog D doesn't have lit mod wheels, or backlit panel. Nor is it white or have any real eye catching features (if you don't count blue and red flip switches...
).
But, strangely, every time someone comes to my place and listens to it for a few seconds, it is their eyes that light-up ! That's eye-candy enough for me...

FWIW, Amos and I worked very hard on making my LP the one-of-a-kind instrument it is. I understand why some don't appreciate the whole modify this that or other visual thing, but to some of us, the sight of the instrument is as important as the sound. If I had a late model Minimoog D, for example, the one that was painted, I'd probably strip it and stain it...walnut, or something. Or, I'd keep it as-is, with the scrapes and dents and all and watch the fireworks when showing of its sound.
The fact is, while some people can't appreciate modifying the looks of a synth, it's a personal preference, and should be respected as such.
BTW audiosculpter12, The LED's are kind of easy to put in yourself, if the blue wheels don't suit you.

You're absolutely right, Voltor. And in no way my earlier comment was meant to disapprove modifying or adding visual eye-candy on any synth. It is strictly a matter of personal choice and taste, and I wholeheartedly respect that !
In fact, I kind of enjoyed the look of the EB back in 2008 (was temporarily, and graciously, lent to me by the store owner while my Old School was out for repairs) ...

Right! Just wanted to reply and say, the white performer arrived, it is more beautiful than i thought it would be.
The mod wheels have white LEDs in anyway, which look great....and the sound. oh my the sound. hooked. line and sinker. copy of angling times.
Unlikely to load arturia again, though, i did wonder if a fun setup might be using the moog to play monophonically, and also trigger an external moog emulation polyphonically that responded to all the midi cc, keeping everything in sync.
Also, i immediately desire moogerfoogers.
