Effects options for Voyager
Effects options for Voyager
I've been using a rack mounted effects unit on gigs with my Voyager. Since I am primarily sticking to reverb and delay combinations I'm looking to simplify, perhaps just a stomp box (or two).
I'm curious what effects units you fellow Voyager owners use on gigs and what you might recommend for reverb and delay.
Thanks!

Re: Effects options for Voyager
Check out the Strymon El Capitstan. Great delay pedal with spring reverb as a hidden feature.
Re: Effects options for Voyager
I use Electro-Harmonix for my effects. Doesn't your American made analogue synth deserve American made analogue effects?
EHX does have a reverb pedal but it's digital like every other pedal I know of. I know PAIA used to make a spring reverb unit kit for a good price.

Re: Effects options for Voyager
Well, I've been using a Boss RE-20 Space Echo...
Pretty widely available and at a fairly good price point (~$250 or so). Seems to sit well enough in the mix, and offers both delay and reverb (separate or in combination).
Also loving the Line 6 Echo Park delay stompbox (delay only - but impressive capabilities: Digital, Analog and Tape simulations).

Electo harmonix Deluxe Memory Boy here. Nice warm analog delay and CV Expression Pedal can control several parameters, one at a time though.
Former owner of Prodigy #2845 (purchased new, long ago), Animoog, Voyager Select (Fire & Maple), Little and Slim Phatties, Nord Electro 4D, 5D and Lead 2X, Roland AX-9.

The Boss RE20 is a really nice delay/reverb. Also take a look at the Lexicon MX 200, it has several reverb and delay styles along with other effects can be found under $200.00 .
Have fun

My favorite... I got 3 of them : one on my guitar rig, one on my recording mixer and one dedicated solely for my Voyager. It makes it sound like a steam pipe church organ. Mighty impressive.Brian G wrote:Also take a look at the Lexicon MX 200, it has several reverb and delay styles along with other effects can be found under $200.00 .
It's a dual effect sound processor in a rack. If you want to stomp on something, the Lexicon pedal can control either effects on and off with two heavy duty switches. Lexicon MX-200 can be controlled from din-midi or usb midi too.
Re: Effects options for Voyager
I have been very happy with my 200. In the early 90's I bought a Boss SE 50 very programmable, lots of effects, sounds great. I still put it to use once in awhile. Should be be to find it or the next model the SE 70 fairly cheap used. One possible downside us you do not gave dedicated knobs for live adjustment, they are all in the menus. There are many nice " newer" ones out there

Besides the fact that it sounds good, that's what I like the most about the MX-200 : no menus. Everything you want has a knob or a selector switch, times 2.Brian G wrote:...they are all in the menus...

Yes, that is one of the things I like about it besides sounding great.
The RE 20 has a nice warm organic quality to it. Along with the MX you have a nice combination.

Thanks for the replies! I look forward to exploring your suggestions.

What rack effect(s) are you using now? A suggest by others, the MX-200 is a very nice multi-purpose effect processor (I have one!), but it's another rack effect...blue.monk wrote:I've been using a rack mounted effects unit on gigs with my Voyager. As for stompboxes, EHX is certainly a good way to go. Their Cathedral Reverb is quite nice, but it's 'verb only. They make quite a few delays, too - both analog and digital - and there's tons of delay pedals available from other vendors (TC Electronic, Line 6, Boss, etc.), so you have a wealth of possibilities to choose from.
That said, I'm not sure how having additional gear - such as a couple of pedals - simplifies things for you. Some pedals have their own power adapter, and all pedals will require additional I/O cabling. The bit and pieces can add up quickly, not to mention the extra setup and tear-down time for gigging out.
Sure you don't want a multi-purpose rack effect?

Re: Effects options for Voyager
Quite true, Greg. I'm currently using the Alesis Midiverb 4. I'm not unhappy with the results but it is not easy to make tweaks to my presets on the fly. That is why I was considering a stomp box - turning knobs is handier on a gig than accessing submenus. And since I'm primarily using reverb and delay I was hoping for a simpler unit without all the bells and whistles (even if it doesn't simplify my setup). Sorry, I could have been clearer in my original post.GregAE wrote:That said, I'm not sure how having additional gear - such as a couple of pedals - simplifies things for you. Re: Effects options for Voyager
Yes! That's what's lacking in the Midiverb. Sweetwater has a killer deal currently on the MX200 - $125 after rebate.Portamental wrote:Besides the fact that it sounds good, that's what I like the most about the MX-200 : no menus. Everything you want has a knob or a selector switch, times 2.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
