Calibrating the Voyagers oscillators ?

Post by martinaune » Mon Sep 19, 2005 1:32 pm

Hello,

Can the Voyager be calibrated in some way without turning the unit to sevice? My RME's oscillators changes individually in tuning over time.

First, oscillators 2 & 3 needs to be set at around LED +4 to sound approximately unison with osc 1. Well enough, but after a few days osc 2 flattens and needs to be set at LED +8. The result is that patches using tuned fifths (+7 on the pot) doesn't reach up any more and I have to change them to the fourth below and rise the octave instead.

Secondly, the fine tune button always needs to stay closer to "11 o'clock" than straight up. Not really a problem, I just wonder if this could affect the osc 2 & 3 calibration..?

The Voyager is analog indeed, but I was under the impression that the internal tuning between the oscillators should be fairly constant even if the master tuning varies over time?

That doesn't sound right, your RME may be faulty. My oscillators may be off by +/- 1 or 2 every once in a while, but +8 to be in tune is not right. I'd contact Moog.

Yeah, same here. There is always a little drift when the voyager is first turned on, but thereafter presets that have been tuned to unison are definitely in unison when recalled. My master tune is also at around 11 o'clock, but it's pretty much always been there since I got my voyager.

I have noticed that my presets are a bit off even after a 20 minute warm-up. Not much, just a little and I love it!!! Finally some soul and life… It sounds a bit more like my Model D. I bought mine new in June 2004… I think analogue sizers are like fine wine, they have to age.

@Demokid - agreed. The sound of my voyager has definitely changed since I bought it and only for the better...
