Power Connector Hassles

Post by ether » Sun Mar 03, 2013 6:31 pm

I've got a collection of Moogerfoogers of different vintages, but I'm having trouble with the power connectors staying connected properly.

The "barrels" on the end of the wall warts that shipped with the foogers are nice and long and stay in the back of the foogers nicely.

However, I bought a Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2+ and the reverse polarity connector cables, and the barrels on these are shorter and don't stay connected very well. Some barely connect properly at all, and the little buggers often fall out when patching or stomping around. Very annoying.

Anyone got any tips on a solution? Somewhere to order long barrel reverse polarity cables? Barrel "extenders"?

I'm not completely afraid of DIY, but its not my first choice.

Personally? I would never go with an all-in-one power supply, no matter how tempting it may look. I've heard too many conflicting stories about how it will work/it will blow up your modules...

I just set up all my Foogers on a rolling table recently and placed all the power supply wall warts and power outlets on a shelf. Not the easiest thing to move around, though it gets the job done. If I were gigging with them, I'd just set up a board with all the power strips and fasten the whole thing down.

No problems with my multi-PSU: I use the Diago Powerstation to power all of my Foogers (6 plus some other non-Moog pedals). Use the Diago red adaptors for the Foogers, but you might need to cut the plastic back (take note OP) to make the barrel of the plug longer than the standard used by Boss.
Powerstation is ace cos its so compact - same size as a small laptop PSU. I don't get much in the way of noise either, and I am happy to use it in my home studio to record.
