Hi All,
I'm getting some pretty inconsistent behaviour from my recently purchased Slim Phatty.
At any giving moment, either the physical in/out MIDI stops working (to the point where the MIDI in/out menu items in MIDI setup doesn't even show up!) or just the MIDI output will stop working but will still receive.
I'll switch to USB - which sometimes works, or dies at some point during operation and stalls my audio/midi setup window.. or the thing with just appear offline. It's frustrating as hell and feels like a faulty MIDI processor in the synth.
Cycling the power doesn't usually work (and is a pain in the ass btw, with the power switch on the back of a rackmount... huge oversight). Forcing a factory reset sometimes helps. Updating the firmware makes it come back every time, but then it eventually dies again.
All this being said, something as ubiquitous as MIDI i/o should never ever be an issue on a piece of gear in 2012 so I can only come to the conclusion that it's a hardware problem. The same MIDI cables that are 'dead' from the slim phatty will send receive no problem to any other MIDI I have. It's not my system.
Anyone else running into this?

Re: Slim Phatty MIDI / USB issues
Hi Guys,
Yes just recently purchased my slim phatty and very disappointed with the midi connectivity usb.
This definately has some sort of bug
I am running Cubase 7 64 bit on win7 and slim phatty ver 3.12
The usb driver seems to install fine and it appears in the windows device list as active
The slim phatty appears in cubase as normal and can be selected as an output and works well.
Then connectivity may be ok for awhile but then all of a sudden it just dies.
And generally it locks up the slim phatty as well or crashes cubase.
And its not a simple task getting it working again either
This usb connectivity has made my setup very unstable
Hope we can find a resolution as I am loving my SP !
Regards
Chris

Re: Slim Phatty MIDI / USB issues
Turns out my usb midi woes were running an usb extension and / or a usb hub
That solved that issue with my daw
But still having issues when wanting to play just midi keyboard to SP via midi din
Usually have to pull out usb connection to allow din midi connection to work, got me beggared
Apart from that the SP is awesome
I envy anyone who lives in a warm climate as their SP would tune up quicker, since its still summer in Oz my SP warms up and in tune very quickly

Re: Slim Phatty MIDI / USB issues
Same problem with dead midi. Has anyone solved it ?
Re: Slim Phatty MIDI / USB issues
OK, so I had the same troubles - USB working (notes from track in from Ableton - ok), but NOTHING through MIDI IN to the SP.
Luckily, I stumbled upon this post, which saved me:
http://forum.moogmusic.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=10994
To sum it up
- unplug usb and turn off / on
- set sync (arp & lfo) to "internal"
- get sysex or windows file and send FIX to SP (**via USB connection) ...scroll down on the linked page and you'll see a download.
so frustrating (in addition to the "stuck note" issue i get with certain keyboards used with mid in...)
good luck.
