The kind of synthesizer I like with some bite

Post by hooshirn » Sun Jan 27, 2013 10:41 pm

Here's and analogy

I own a 2001 Mustang Bullet Gt and it's a bit twitchy and tweaked
more than a bit unsafe at any speed.
it doe's not handle all that well and it doe's not break all that well.

Last summer I was smoking the tire's fishtailing back and forth going sideways at 85
I had been peeling off through first second and third like tires where a dime a dozen
I said to myself when I got it back under control "DAM" that's American Engineering
and yes they should most certainly take my license to have this much fun away.

Sometimes when I'm working with the Voyager XL tweaking knob's with maybe a Fooger over driving a bit on the insert our outboard
I hit a sound where I say "Dam" that is something.
That sound may be a bit out of control and not perfectly in tune, but it is just somehow completely Analog Awesome, like I was a superstar shredding guitar and escape I guess.

That's what I like about synthesizer's I like something a bit unsafe at any speed without a lot of let us say digital seat belts
are useless wash out cheap hubcap fx engines installed ,
You can do that perfectly well in DAW software these day's.
I like raw sound.
I like to do lush ambient stuff as well to relax at times, though when I need it this Voyager let's me Shred out my Frustrations in fit of Knod twisting madness.

I was Looking at that Moog Modular at foundation booth at WNAMM what a Beautiful Roaring Beast that is.

A "tyger tyger burning bright" to put it overtly poetically, in all it's fearful symmetry
not much, dime store stamp factory/ digital about it.

Tacking on digital accessory's is cheap to do and that includes midi
Constructing Awesome analog feature's is very expensive and hands on time consuming at least I would think
Hard work though it is a very impressive engineering feat.

Digital is and has always been a cheap tack on selling technique
And to me it's just kind of wimpy sell out in and engineering sense
Digital is the easy way to tack mega useless features on what is the core sound creation of a quality synthesizer.
Now in my opinion the definition of digital would be anything tacked on as a cheap selling point to make things to easy are give something a cheap wowee factor.
like a one finger chord organ, is maybe what I'm saying
It calls out invitingly to the target marketed moron in me and you

"go on and press duh button there don't know nutt'n".

We all must admit to being in many ways the morons of mass Marketing
The crew of captain crunch "munch munch"
Sitting before that babysitter of a tv looking at all the wizzing instant gratification flying by
over and over again.

You can sell a product you can sell a name in what direction is Moog headed?

A synthesizer is work, you have to grow to love the reward's of the creation process.
and it take's work and commitment to build a truly awesome synthesizer that allows you to do so.

A synthesizer is oscillator's, filters,amps, and modulators,
The amp's must be able to distort in a convincing roar and still be controlled enough to remain pleasing.
The oscillators must, their is no other way I can think of to put it fight among themselves for front stage privilege's
A free for all electronically at least to a certain calculated degree.
The filters? well to me the worabally'r and wackier the better
analog sound is a bit hard to describe in most ways
but I would say their must be a free wheeling nature to it.

Digital would to me be rather easy to describe and that would be in one word, predictable.
their is a lot of predictable music these days don't you think?

That's just my opinion I of my currently owned Moog Gear I love the Voyager and Mooger Foogers even the ones with midi tacked on
I must admit.

I don't care for the Minitaur as much it seem's like a conflicted thing with all it's under the hood features, is it simple is it complex? is it simply complex?

What it is mostly would be buggy and unreliable in my experience.

Moog going back to the Old school and building stuff completely controlled by C.V., would that not be cool?
Doe's not seem that likely in the current clutch's of the name sake marketing

Anyway I love true blue synthesizer's and always have in the nature of their electronic artistry.

That's just how I picture Moog, standing before a Giant Modular Beast as a Giant of Yankee Ingenuity

"Look what I did kid's, stay in school this thing is very cool"

and it most certainly is
I wish I stayed in school and built something that challenging and cool.

A way cool "stay in school"

And it were not stamped out in a Chinese factory to put it quit frankly

and badly grammatically

Who asked me?

Sometimes I just love to preach

especially after thrashing on that completely inspiring Voyager beast.
Voyager XL, Minitaur,Theremen+, Fooger's, Midi delay and Midi murf, Freq box X 2, Ring mod, 101 Filter, Novation ultra station, ZR 76, MC808, Bent Casio's, 3 Speak and Spell's , M audio black box,Korg Monotribe, Ipad's with Animoog, Filtron on and on..

Lucky for us, we don't risk having our driving license revoked or put anyone's life in danger by having fun with our American Muscle synths.

To Quote Jan Hammer:
" People should have a license to use the pitch wheel. "

I know I often get the feeling I'm driving an American classic sitting if front of a 1969 Moog. Pure Adrenaline Rush!

I think you need to put your hands on an MG-1 or an Opus 3 and run circles around your ears. 8)
