MF-108M crashes receiving midi cc's

Post by Cej » Wed Feb 13, 2013 11:02 pm

Hello,

I would like feedback/help from others who are using parameter CC midi clips with their MF-108M.

The following will happen every time and almost straightaway when receiving MIDI CC messages.
The “BYPASS” is latching on and won’t allow manual control to bypass (switching off).
Once this happens all the front panel parameter controls cease operation and the unit lose's its current parameter setting until the unit is powered down and then powered back on again.

I can’t find a definate procedure triggering it to happen (e.g. sometimes it happens within 30secs from firing a midi clip, sometimes 2mins, and sometimes straight away) I have spent most of the past 6 weeks trying to recreate the problem with different scenarios.
i.e. - with (licensed) Ableton Live8 suite active and not active
- with “BYPASS” on > then sending MIDI CC’s
- with “BYPASS” off > then sending MIDI CC’s

I have also swapped and used different MIDI cables and ports with other hardware (including the Voyager and MF-104M) that are operating correctly when receiving MIDI CC messages.
All of this has been tried with the original firmware the MF-108M had when I purchased it at the end of November 2012, as well as with the firmware v1.04 update.

....so yesterday I exchanged the unit at Awave for another MF-108M.

To my surprise this unit also is "crashing" during operation as described above.

I kept my modus operandi simple....
....Midi clip with CC parameter messages on CC# 12, CC# 13 and CC# 91, and after the unit crashed 4-5 times as above, I swapped the new exchanged MF-108M with my MF-104M Delay.

With nothing changed, I used the same project, midi clip, CC's, midi interface/port (RME UC), midi cable, power supply, audio cables....
....the MF-104M Delay was rock solid even while changing many of the CC envelop parameters while the project was playing.

Has anyone else experienced this sort of problem???

Any shared helpful experience would be appreciated as this is starting to do my head in.....

Cheers

I have noticed some "flaky" if you will, behavior from my 108M. I use an iPhone with the Touch OSC app & Line6 Midi Mobilizer to control various parameters during jamming. I have noticed that I experience drop outs / hangs or lack of responsiveness randomly - sometimes never, sometimes lots. The midi Murf has a few glitches like this too, but any other units connected seem to be fine - and they get tweaked a lot more.

Usually the problem is resolved with a power down / up. I just thought it was my control method, but now I'm not thinking so.

I will have to track the issue to specific CC's and troubleshoot and report back. You know what happens now tho, I will never see the issue again!
Vibration emanates from all things, even nothing. Using awareness to translate vibration into "music" is something that I am whole heartedly grateful for.

silly me! for the past 6 weeks I could have just install Live9 beta and been done with trying to fault diagnose

Kudos to the Awave team exchanging my unit, especially Andrew for taking the time to grab my returned MF-108M Cluster Flux and testing it with Logic, Ableton Live8 and Live9 beta.

The verdict receiving midi CC's....
- Logic = rock solid
- Ableton Live9 beta = rock solid
- Ableton Live8 = the culprit, it crashed!!!

I have just installed Live9 beta and for the past 2hrs have been bending sounds with much delight, not one hiccup! :D

....and nice work Moog I lurve the Cluster Flux

Cheers
