OSC Hz detune?

Post by KeysBR » Thu Jan 24, 2013 12:06 pm

The new Sub Phatty has a great new feature where you can detune the OSC2 in musical intervals (like a Voyager or Minimoog Model D) or in Hz (like a Taurus I).
On the Taurus III and the Minitaur I think the OSC are really an V/Hz oscillators, as is on the Taurus I.
But on the Sub-Phatty I think this is done by software recalibrating the frequency shift on OSC2 from exponential to linear on each pressed note.
Is it possible, in a software update, this feature be implemented in the Voyager?

I doubt it very much... It has to do with the way the oscillator's hardware electronic circuits are designed.

DSI Prophet REV2
Oberheim Matrix-6
Ensoniq SQ-80

Yes, I know that's the case, but, since Voyager's internal CVs are digitally controlled, I find it feasible that with not heavy load on the processor it can calculate what frequency would be necessary to maintain constant beating throughout the keyboard and adjust OSC frequency CV accordingly.
I think that this is what was done on the Sub-Phatty.
Why then not on the flagship?

The oscillators of the SubPhatty have the core of the Minitaur's and the continuously variable waveshape of the Little Phatty.
The Minitaur oscillators core is why they can do it.

The processor on the Voyager cannot monitor the frequency of the oscillators. The support circuitry isn't there.

Makes sense MC... if the frequency control isn't perfectly calibrated, without sensor feedback you can't guarantee that any algorithm would always work.

Thanks for taking the time to talk me out of my crazy theories.
