Over Priced
Okay, are we going to engage in another pointless debate, like the one started months ago by Fifi Bastard?

Oyster can you handle criticism without name calling ? typical amateur "musician" and I really don't think you could play circles around me, after listening to the 2 duds you put on the web I would be playing circles around you ! I am more interested in the mainstream and not absurd underground from people who take themselves waaaaaaaaay too seriously with their overpriced monosynth.
Can I end the debate with a funny story?
OK,
So there I was in Turnkey, London browsing ...
I know that the Voyager and Moog gear are all displayed together in the same part of the store.
I passed the Moogs and there was a temptation to see if anyone had popped a couple of their own edits in there( as I always do just to check that people are still play with their knobs, which I assume those who don't have Voyagers do, but only in their bedrooms )
After a brief look through I moved away and picked up the item i'd ordered.
Upon looking back to the Voyager, I see a guy and his girlfriend standing next to it. He picks up a pair of head phones and puts them on. She, on the other hand is not interested in it whatsoever. He's fidling away furiously and playing as many notes as his hands can play at one time, but he's agitated----NO SOUND FROM THE KEYBOARD at all.....
He carries on trying his best, twiddling knobs, but nothing.....this happened for 5 minutes as I watched in amazement.....
THEN HIS GIRLFRIEND(who was obviously bored) leaned across to tweak one of the knobs because she could see her boyfriend was struggling,.......PASSING THE THEREMIN next to the Voyager and triggering an almighty swoop from the beast.....
The Boyfriend leapt in the air as the sound thundered through his cans......
he had the wrong pair on AND Someone had obviously cranked the volume up on the theremin headphone output and this guy had to pay the penalty for being stupid.
LESSON NUMBER ONE.....If you are going to take your girlfriend into a music shop....at least guys make sure you've bought her something nice that she can hold on to instead of her trying to join you in your quest for Glory.....
LESSON NUMBER TWO......Always check around the store to see if someone is watching you make a fool of yourself......
I ONLY WISH I HAD A CAMCORDER
LESSON NUMBER THREE.......If you are going to check out new gear, be sure to get good advice. It saves embarrasement, lots of time and a pair of eardrums.

Haha. Some great tips there.
LESSON NUMBER 4
If you do take your girlfriend with you, let her do her own shopping. That leaves you with plenty of time to go into a music store, completely learn all the features of EVERY synth in there, and enough time to come up with new patches for every one!
Can't stop laughing about the theory Theremins can cause planes to crash. It's not the first time that I've heard that one.

I totally concur with the last few points. I really hate when I'm in the situation described by Nige.
Then, there's the instance when you're in a musical instrument store and witness a Theremin being played, for the first time, by a beginner. The sound reminds you of a child screaming. The wailing, screeching enima of that instrument "in the hands" of a newbie will stay with you, forever.
In my case, I was distracted, not from the Voyager, but from an acoustic guitar I was testing in a completely seperate room. I heard it loud and clear. And, this was a standard Etherwave, rather than an Etherwave Pro. Is there a massive difference?

LESSON NUMBER 5
If your girlfriend is shopping while you are in the music store, she will feel very guilty on spending about a week's income. While you spent more then a month or more income for another of those knob covered boxes of strange noises.

keep on turning these Moog knobs

Just a couple of questions on this `overpriced' issue.
If the Voyager is overpriced 1970s technology (actually it isn't exactly 70s technology anyway, but let's let that one pass), and people who buy it have their heads on backward because of that -
this year I bought a Voyager, and I also bought a Roland V-synth XT. Apparently I was the first person in Britain to buy the XT.
On that basis, which way do you consider my head to be fixed on?
And the second question:
I'm thinking about buying a cello. Some of them are massively expensive - far more expensive than the Voyager. But you can get a cheap cello made in China for a fraction of the cost, and it has all the same features - same number of strings, bow, bridge and so on. But I don't hear Mitislav Rostopovich or Yo Yo Ma playing a cheap Chinese cello. The difference isn't features - it's sound quality. Don't you think the issue could be the same with the Voyager?

Yoyo Ma is absurd ! his cello sounds cheap to me, so it would not matter, but any real musician with talent who wishes to charm people with music and not try to impress them can make that cheap cello sound good.
yoyo ma is the best example of pure absurd music , anyone who takes that clown serious has their head on backwards too.
Enjoy your Voyager I hope you get your moneys worth.
How do you like that V synth ?

Now you see, Suede has dis'd Yo Yo. That puts the Oyster in with some pretty good company.
Yes, how is the VSynth? It's pretty expensive. In fact, it was only $300 less than my new Voyager AE. I was about to buy the VSynth when the Voyager deal came up. I figured in about 4 or 5 years I'll be able to pick up a used VSynth for $800-$900, but the used Voyager will still be expensive. So I went with the Voyager and haven't regretted it.

The V synth sells for $2k and if you wait all that time to buy one on the used market there will be a more modern version to hit the streets, you see it is like this music and people are moving foward into the future not backwards like the Moog Crowd.
