Wakeman song played in Moog film?

Post by msf88 » Mon Aug 22, 2005 12:36 pm

I feel a bit guilty about starting a thread over a simple question, but could anyone tell me the name of the song played by Rick Wakeman during his hallway interview in the new Moog film?

Thanks in advance.

When I watched the movie again last night, I remembered seeing this thread.

The first song that Rick is playing is something from the Wives of Henry the 8th album. I am not really sure which song it was though. There is only one part of the song that is identifiable, then Rick takes off in improv. I was going to pull out my old vinyl album to play and identify the song for you and as I was doing so, there was a 2nd section of Rick playing some wild, fantastic piece. I figured that this is the song that you wanted identified, so I did not check out the title of the first song.

I have no idea what song he was playing in the second segment. It might have been all improv. As noted before, it was quite wild and Rick was all over the keyboard. Kind of reminded me of Merlin with the pace and virtuosity of the piece, but the tune was not recognizable as Merlin. Maybe it was all made up on the spot.

If you are interested in the first segment, go ahead and post to let me know and I will get out my old "album" and find out which song it was.

I watched this part of the movie again last night as I had a friend over and I wanted him to see it.

In retrospect, the second segment sounds like it is in keeping with the style, tempo, and feeling of the first segment. I think that it is further improv on the song from the Wives of Henery the Eighth that was played in the first part. You won't find this on the album....

Still don't know the name of the piece as I did not pull out the old vinyl. I will probably do this over the weekend as you now have me wondering.

SOMEBODY OUT THERE HELP US!!

Sorry rlainhart but I don't believe that that was Catherine Parr. I just listened to that cut and I am not hearing any resembelance.

I think that he was playing a highly improvised version of Arthur from the "MYTHS AND LEGENDS...." album. There is certainly that unmistakable lick from that piece in the video.

BUT... there is also a chord progression at the end of the videos first Wakeman section that is unmistakeable and very familiar, but I can't seem to figure out where it came from. I have played "MYTHS" and "HENRY THE EIGHTH" off and on all day and have yet to pick it up. I can hear it on SOME album in my head but I can't figure out where.

I don't think that it is in "JOURNEY" but maybe I will listen to it tomorrow.

I have been doing some heavy reading while I am listening, so maybe these parts are just going right past me, but I don't have the time to just and listen to the music only.

There has got to be somebody out there that can help with this. It is now starting to drive me crazy.
Thanks Bob!!
