Don't ever get it.

I paid the fee for it, and had no problems with my computer hardware. I had to get the charger replaced. It was on my doorstep the following morning.

But I have had software problems.

I bought apple care under the salespitch "If you are deep in the middle of a project and you need to figure out how to do _____ an apple care tech will help you"

Problem number 1.
iMovie has bugs that I experienced.
Apple care techs Response: "Well, it is limited".
No Fix.

Problem number 2
My niece created an itunes account (I never got one) and now everytime I open it up it prompts me for a password
Apple Care techs response: "Hmmmmm I've never heard of that before"
Solution: I had to figure out myself how to deauthorize this computer.

Problem 3 (the most interesting one)
Audio from a youtube video (a doctor giving a lecture about the health benefits of a bidet) plays at random, and is triggered by something that is internet related.
Apple Care techs response "We don't know what's happening, send it in and we will reformat it"
"But what if I backup whatever file it is that we can't find that triggers this crazy toilet sales pitch?"
"I have no idea"

All solutions unresolved by apple retards.

Result:
I paid 400 dollars for a charger

DONT EVER BUY APPLE CARE.....THEY AREN'T EVEN AVAILABLE 24-7.
Hmm.. I've never had any of these problems and have been using apples for 18 years. with iTunes I'd dig through your preferences. the vid... you made sure all your history is cleared, and you didn't download the vid or something?
Oh and about iMovie... don't use it. it is a worthless program now that is near unusable at the best of times.. which is sad because the first gen of it tenish years ago was actually a cool easy to use program that could make some nice looking edits.

My current 'puter is the first one I have ever bothered with applecare with and I only got it because I didn't trust apple now that Jobs is gone.. actually I figured this would be my last apple because I had/have a feeling they'd mess everything up in favor of little toys and their apps... which is what it looks they are doing..

I went to a website that had an embedded youtube video on their page. I played the video, thought it was interesting. A week later the audio from the video played. It did this several times over time, and nothing on force quit. Everything was closed, nothing going on in the applications.
I got on the pone with apple care, we went through various things, deleted files, etc. It even happened when I was on the phone with them.
When the audio plays, I have to turn the wireless off because it is apparently streaming.
They let me download this data capture thing for their engineers and I sent them several files taken during the audio.
They were baffled.
Their only option......reformat. But I have to back-up first, which may back up the audio.

Also, they told me that I have a defective battery, and if it went over 1000 cycles i wouldn't be able to get it replaced. Had I never had to call apple care they never would have told me my battery is defective. Kind of crappy, eh?

Yeah that was another big reason for the timing when I bought the 'Pro... The last time Jobs left Apple, the product quality went with him. And this time it isn't coming back.

Are you going to buy or build your case? Following the instructions in the DIY section of the synthesizers.com page is super easy. I built my case in about four hours using hand tools, and it was a more complex build than a normal case. :)

I'd thought about it, but I decided that I'm going all out on the modular. I've got enough DIY stuff. I ordered the Studio22 walnut case. Eventually, it will turn into a Studio66

Lucky bastard! Thats on the "bucket list".

Oh, and I FINALLY finished this today!
Image

Spent the afternoon tuning the VCO's (painintheass). Holy crap this thing is HUGE! For a DIY synth, it packs a serious punch! It totally rivals with any vintage analog synth. The filter is 2-Pole SVF, which, I absolutely love, but it really could use some 4-pole ladder love. Another awesome reason for the modular!

Very nice. Also have a ProCo RAT2 that you can't see in the photo. If you are into warm bassy distorted drones, the Big Muff π Bass is a very cost effective pedal. The ProCo RAT nails that bitting overdrive/distortion + I get 3 different types of overdrive from my SP, the MF-102 and MF-108.
Getting cables to sequence the Minitaur from the X0xb0x, I want acid basslines with VCO phase re-trigger. That is going to be a lot of fun.
The Minitaur sounds massive, although I still do feel that my Slim Phatty sounds punchier and has more character. Not very fond of the way the Minitaur VCF sounds kinda "detached" from the VCOs at high resonance settings, whereas the Phatty VCF sounds more "tied in" with with VCOs at high resonace settings.

In any case, two completely different sounding synths the SP and the MT. Glad I have them both.
