14 bit midi in Logic 9 with Slim?
14 bit midi in Logic 9 with Slim?
Hi, I am having a lot of trouble figuring out how to set up Logic 9 to capture and send 14 bit midi data to my Slim Phatty. I have set the Slim to send 14 bit, but I do not see an option to tell it to receive it. I am not sure if I am supposed to set it up in Logic as I cannot find any info about that on the web. My main issue at this time is trying to automate the Cutoff Frequency of the filter (via CC 19). First off, I "record" the midi data for the Cutoff sweep but no visual data can be found in Logic 9. Strangely enough the automation is recorded and played back, but again, I don't see it anywhere in Logic. Also, due to the fact that I cannot figure out how to setup the 14 bit midi mode properly, the sweep sounds like it is climbing very jerky stairs, which of course confirms that it is still using 7 bit. I do not have the AU plugin and I refuse to pay $70 for something that in my opinion should have come with the synth for free....Like every other synth I own. This is not purely a "prideful" stand, but more of a monetary stand as I already had to save like a beast in order to afford this monster. With that said, I sincerely hope that I don't need the plugin to use 14 bit midi as that would be a pretty low blow by Moog.
Thanks
Sean

Did you have any luck with this? I'm trying to automate my Minitaur without USB just straight MIDI via an interface and its perplexing me. I've tried setting a 14 bit filter in clicks & ports with no joy I'm even getting note on note off artefacts now!
Re: 14 bit midi in Logic 9 with Slim?
I've worked out how to do it:
I've created 14 BIT CC Faders in Logic environment that are automated on their own track in the arrange!
If you need instructions let me know.

DeGrale,
Could you please post more info about the 14 bit fader Logic environment you made?
Thanks!

Oh my gosh! sorry I've not checked this for a long time, hence the lack of reply. I've messaged you directly digilog and will hopefully post a step by step (see what I did there) guide on this subject.

The 14 BIT data is recorded in the MIDI editor. You won't see it on the actual channel view. Double click the MIDI region and the MIDI editor/"piano roll" will pop up. Then at the bottom left corner, pull up the window with the MIDI data (pitch bend, modulation...etc) that contains the information of whatever Slim knob tweaks you made, during the recording. Then you can edit away there, 14 BIT style.

Re: 14 bit midi in Logic 9 with Slim?
I just recorded a part with filter cutoff automation.
I select the region, open the event list.
I can see 14 bit MIDI data for the filter cutoff (MSB, then several numbers of LSB, then the next MSB, etc.)
However, when I play back the sequence I still hear very audible stepping. Much more than when I manually sweep the filter.
Also, re: editing, 14 bit style
It seems like I can only edit the MSB or LSB, not both together.
