As I always do whenever I get some new analog gear, I open it up and get a good look at the circuit. I like to see what chips are used and how it's put together. I am a soldering junkie. Anyway, when I was checking out the Analog Delay, I noticed 2 empty spots that look like they can take 2 more of the MN3008 BBD chips. Is this possible and if so, what would the benefits be to adding additional delay stages? Would it be a "drop & go" thing or would it be a calibration nightmare (I've read the more BBD chips, the harder it is to calibrate). Also, (someone at Moog) what was the original design intent for the 2 extra MN3008 slots?

The Z had to spots to get SD, hope this is plug and play (like the Z) might get 1000ms / 1200ms

as far as ive seen yesterday on mine (only opened the cover), there are plenty of connections for another ca 10-20 parts besides these 2 slots for another MN3008. So most probably it wont be easy to do thing.
Anyway it would be better to make 104M with 4 MN3008 from beggining and more expensive, as an total ultimate delay...i dont think Moog will offer factory upgrade or something like that...but i hope so

More likely they are reserved for other BBDs like MN3005s. That way if Moog found a source of one or the other, they didn't need to re-design the board. I have two original 104s - one has 3005s and the other has 3008s, and the board rev/component layout is different between the two.
Highly doubt you can double the delay by stuffing another set of BBDs in those empty slots. Chaining BBDs end-to-end only works to a certain point. Each BBD chip has inherent noise that cannot be eliminated. Chain two and you double the audio level of noise but is barely acceptable. Chain more than two and the noise level is unacceptable.

Ok, that makes sense seeing as you need only 2 3005's or 4 3008's.
