Won't run standalone nor under DAW
My setup:
Cubase Elements 6
Echo Audiofire 2
Minitaur connected via USB
Do I need to also connect Minitaur via MIDI to control from editor?
Minitaur editor won't control synth
Re: Minitaur editor won't control synth
No.
The USB connection from the computer to the Minitaur is the only connection needed for MIDI notes and the editor to work.
I have no information about what you need to set up with the Cubase.
Avoid using USB hubs, as they are often a source of MIDI via USB trouble.
And be sure to select the Minitaur on the MIDI SETUP of the UNDER THE HOOD window of the editor for input and output. And Use the very same MIDI channel for the Minitaur and the editor. Connecting other software to the Minitaur at the same time is something I can't help you.

Re: Minitaur editor won't control synth
I also have this issue..I've read somewhere else that you have to hook up both midi and usb when using minitaur with sequencer. In my case, in cubase, if i choose in midi input my usb midi keyboard and midi output-minitaur usb on channel 1 I can play it, but minitaur editor in that case is not working. It's not sending or receiving nothing . It looks like it can't use at the same time minotaur's usb midi in/out cause its being used by my keyboard/sequencer. maybe I'm missing something

Re: Minitaur editor won't control synth
I've been able to run the Minitaur editor (on Mac), CV input from my analog sequencer, and a midi keyboard into the DIN with no problems.
I've discarded Logic for anything but recording live so cannot try any other combination without all sorts of headaches but what I mentioned above works.
I use DIN input with a 2 foot cable between my keyboard and Minitaur. Nothing like just turning everything on and playing!
Maybe get your hands on a freeware Midi monitor app and see what the heck is going on. If you have a Mac, you may find that by default you cannot route between two USB devices without software (like your DAW which is sometimes tricky to setup) or a router like Midi Patchbay which is free http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/7243/midi-patchbay.
You should forget about Cubase for the moment and get down to basics to see that you can send/recv notes and midi control data between devices. Once that work, you can get fancy and struggle : ) through getting Cubase setup correctly.
Plumbing must be there first!
