Strange midi delay problem

Post by m00gin » Wed Sep 05, 2012 4:41 pm

Has anyone else noticed that their SP doesn't always play the first 16th note when triggered via the daw?

Thought i was going mad but it doesn't seem to want to play the first not unless its shitted slightly in, a few ms.

This is causing issues when trying to record the audio..

Hey there,

Try setting Fine Tune (in the master menu) to a setting other than "Auto":

- "On" will mean the Fine Tune Knob is usable/changes tuning.
- "Off" will mean the Fine Tune Knob/Function is bypassed.

In other threads it was mentioned that in "Auto" Fine Tune mode, after leaving the unit unplayed for a certain amount of time (something like 10 seconds), the oscillators will mute and adjust the tuning if needed - then, when you suddenly press a key down, it may take a short time to interrupt the Auto-Tuning, un-mute the oscillators and play your sound - resulting in a slight delay/longer attack on your first note.

If I was you, I would use the "Auto" Fine Tune setting from when I turn the unit on (during warmup) and then change it to either "On" or "Off" (whatever suits you best) just before you want to play/send Midi notes - but that's just me.

I hope this helps!

Thanks but tuning has nothing to do with midi timing (as far as i'm aware).

Well I explained a situation where the tuning mode does have something to do with note timing - whether it's what you've encountered, I'm not sure.
Did you give it a try? If it makes no difference, you can at least rule that cause/fix out and look into other possible causes/fixes.

David.

I know this is an old thread but luckily I searched before posting and found this. Fixed the problem perfectly!!! I had a horrible problem where every time I played the slim phatty (and only that synth) the first note I played was delayed by about 200ms. Ruined a lot of takes! Switching Autotune from Auto to ON fixed it.

I thought it was worth saying Thanks for the info!

EDIT: Except now I'm back to tuning it every time I change patches! Bah.
