NAMM Version 3.0 Movie

Stumbled across movie Moog made at NAMM on version 3.0 (they are calling it 3.0 and not 2.6 in the movie) on the same web site as the one for the Moogfoogers with Brian Kehew.

This one is hosted by Linda Pritchert (apologies if I've misspelled it) of Moog Music. It's about 10 megs so it might be a little hefty for dial-up. You can find it at:

There's not a lot of technical info in the movie, no word on if the upgrade is a new digital board to replace the one currently in the Voyager as has been suggested by other sources. However, she does say that the upgrade is for *all* Voyagers including the RME.

Confirms that new version will have 7 banks each containing 128 patches.
The first 6 banks (768 patches) will contain Moog presets and one bank for user storage.

Kind of vague on if the 6 preset banks could be overwritten, though that was the impression I got. Guess we'll have to wait on to find out.

Also promise some new presets from Thomas Wolf (Germany), Steve Dunnington (Moog) as well as others.

No word on the price either. But at least this looks official. Wonder why there's been no widespread reporting of this? Hold up @ Moog, perhaps?

Does Moog know what that means in the UK?

She says that all the presets can be tweaked in the usual manner, so I guess you could overwrite them as well.

Actually I didn't get that at all . . I got the impression that there are 128 user writable patches and then 6 banks of "presets" loaded on the replacement board from the factory . . naturally if you turn a knob while playing one of the "presets", you are 'tweaking in the usual manner'.

Why didn't Linda just say "768 user programmable patches?"

I have to agree I think she meant that all are user writable as well, just that Moog will supply you with a bunch already.

It would be silly really if they couldn't be overwritten by the user. What will they do when whole banks of new presets are released? Supply a board with 1280 presets on it?

Ha ha, thats funny! Why would she say that? I think its rather common knowledge over here what it means in the UK, I don't think I've ever heard an American use it.

Anyway, of course the presets will be re-writable. Its not like some of the memory will be read-only and some will be read/write.

The external audio to change presets!!!!!

Yeah, uh... hadn't been in here in a while, got all excited about the new software, and then I realize it's $300!! Glee has gone to sadness and it's now this kind of angry bitterness. Thanks anyway. I'll just have to keep pushing buttons.

Actually, it's 225.00 after October 1, 2005. That's provided you perform the upgrade yourself. 225.00 for my money isn't a bad deal at all.

The 325.00 currently offered is for you to send in your Voyager to Moog Music now and have them upgrade Voyager. Believe you have to also cover shipping.
