I always thought that was the more practical route. Anyone have anything negative to say about that?

That's a good idea, the simpler the better. But with modern synths I would get a nice colored di or a colored mic pre with inst input. Anything gritty works well. And the quality of the pa is always a factor. When I had a voyager, I ran it through a neve 1073 clone, sounded super thick even with one oscillator. The model d likes cleaner amps.
