Taurus 3 patches for Minitaur, anyone got em!

Post by anchovyd » Sun Jul 01, 2012 11:26 pm

Okay, I've got me a Minitaur here and have used it to great effect with left hand bass. It is easy to dial up some good bass sounds. I see that Moog has some old school patch sheet pdfs for download with some bass patches.

What I am looking for are patch sheets that ape the 4 fixed presets on the Taurus 3, you know Taurus iii, bass, tuba, Taurus. I read some posts from EMwhite where he has both synths and duplicated the Taurus 3 presets on the Minitaur. EMwhite are you out there, does moog have this?

Also question for those of you with both bass synths (EMwhite?) do you think getting the Taurus 3 is overkill if I already have a Minitaur and Studiologic pedals (the 17 key model, i originally bought for playing organ) with the reduced pricing the Taurus 3 are tempting. I like the arpeggiator and the presets for live playing and can see using it for solo gigs. Now with the band I play left hand bass occasionly with the Minitaur.

Thanks,

Okay okay. I'm an idiot.

For those of you like me, if you download the Minitaur Editor the presets from the Taurus 3 are included. Just click on the preset and you the display on the computer spins all the knobs and switches to the correct play.

Honestly I used the editor a little bit when it first came out to see what the "Under the Hood" stuff did but never opened the preset window. I just play this thing live and never really have it hooked up to the computer. Now I am going to hook up my Minitaur and check out these presets. I've been rolling with my own two our three creations since I picked one up in April, maybe I can get some new ideas. It's great that Moog might allow you to save different default settings for the Under the Hood stuff. Note sync really makes a big difference.

Hey it's me again, the "One Man Thread." After having checked out the patches I have to say that there are some good ones in there. Thanks for including all the presets. I've already learned quite a bit. I have to say for me, I love the handful of patches that I came up with and use but I might start adding some slow Filter mod from the LFO to give it a living/breathing quality. I hadn't had that in my patches and the sounded thunderous but a little lifeless. There are many presets that have the LFO modded Filter and they simply sound evolving and alive, so I am going to incorporate the effect into my patches.

I'll also check out more of the presets when I get some more time. Some are pretty unique sounding and it'd be nice to learn how to create some of those sounds. Learning the tricks from the presets is so much easier than just using your ear.

Three things to keep in mind about the Taurus 3 Patches that come with the editor:

1. T3 has many more choices from an LFO waveform perspective. Therefore, not all of the T3 patches can be properly reproduced.
2. Many of the T3 patches rely on the LFO as part of the basic sound. So it will be necessary to move your mod wheel up appropriately to achieve the desired effect.
3. For dead accurate sounds (many of the T3 patches rely on a very specific beating of the OSCs), you may need to tweak your 'fine' beating setting. I think that there is a slight bit of varience depending on how 'warmed up' your Minitaur is, and how finely tuned it is. This is a minor point but if you do a side-by-side comparison, you will likely notice the difference.
