Hello, I just bought a Yamaha CS-15, and was wondering about triggering the EG (trigger in) by using the LFO out of my Moog Ring mod. I wasn’t sure if each of their voltages would harm each other…I’m kind of new to hooking up CV stuff. Anyway, if anyone knows, I sure could use some wisdom here. Thank you! Jaime

The CS-15 uses a negative EG trigger. According to the CS-15 manual:
Trigger OFF: +15 to +3V
Trigger ON: 0 to -10V
Since the EG fires on a negative voltage, the Ring Mod LFO Output should trigger the EGs on the negative portion of the LFO cycle.
I doubt that this connection will harm anything, although I haven’t tried it myself (yes, I own a CS-15). You should also be aware that the CS-15 isn’t a V/Oct CV synth, it responds to V/HZ instead - this means you won’t be able to control the CS-15 oscillators in a linear fashion like Moog gear.
Hope this helps.

Hi Greg, thanks for your info…that helps. I think I will try hooking up the trigger in with the moogerfooger lfo out and see what happens. I just didn’t want to fry anything. Thanks again! Jaime
No prob - happy to help!
One additional thought about triggering the CS-15 EGs: If you have a CP-251, you can use the Mixer Offset to add a negative voltage to the trigger signal. This is helpful when the LFO is a unipolar square wave (0 to +5V). I can’t remember whether the RM’s LFO square wave is unipolar or bipolar (and I don’t have the means to check it right now), so keep this ‘offset trick’ in mind while playing with the CS-15.
Here’s a photo of the CS-15 I took a few years ago. I call it ‘Old Analog vs New’:

Knobs, knobs, knobs!

Hey Greg, nice set up! I tried the Moogerfooger lfo into the CS-15 EG trigger input, but it didn’t seem to do anything…I’ll keep playing with this…thanks again. Jaime
