Hey guys, I’ve got a boat load of gear I want to sell but I’m having trouble finding the value of these. Can you tell me a source for values of synths? I’ve checked Ebay and there are no recent or completed items listed for the gear I have.
It’s been an ongoing thread for years on the Analogue Heaven mailing list for years. In the late 90s at least a couple sites tried to track sales but they all gave up.
Some common gear get bought and sold all the time. That’s not really the issue. It’s the more rare sort of thing that gets near impossible to value. Tracking ebay sales if someone put the effort into it is suspect because buyers flake out or bid with no intention of paying and ebay doesn’t reveal that. Also just because one person pays X amount for something doesn’t at all mean the next one for sale will sell for that much or not. Sometimes one also has to take into consideration selling now for less (for instance to someone in the business of reselling synths) or be patient and try to eventually sell it at a higher price. Same thing with shipping. Risk shipping and damages to sell it to someone far away for more or wait for someone to come to you.
I’ve got all sorts of gear. OBXa,OB-1,Polymoog,Taurus I. Trying to thin the heard a little. Matter of fact I’m talking with AnalogHeaven right now to buy some of the stuff. He wants a price and I don’t know what to tell him. I don’t want to just give it away you know.
You want to sell something analog and discover the value? Put it on eBay. I promise it won’t sell for less than it’s worth, as long as you provide a good and accurate description, provide clear and multiple pictures, and know what you’re talking about. It will sell for what it’s worth if it is something of that level of value.
I have not, but checking them out it would appear they are making an admirable effort to promote the value and life span of vintage synths and the market for them. Is their price list a valid representation of the street value of gear?
No, their prices are quite high. The owner of the company is paranoid secretive such that no ones his real name and his youtube videos have been notorious for his use of white surgical gloves on his hands. He has also been booted off AH and other sites several times for spamming with his auctions and contributing nothing to the discussions.
Ive never purchased anything from there yet, I have talked to the guy that runs it and some people who have purchased from there and I can that their prices are a little higher than the average vintage market, but with good reason. You probably won’t find to many synths on ebay or craigslist in that good of condition.
That’s too bad - seems like he would have plenty to contribute to these discussions if he wanted to. I’ve only been reading this forum for a few months. What do you have to do to get kicked off exactly? If I want to sell some gear that comes through my shop, and I promote that sale here, am I bordering on a conflict of interest?
yeah that guy…mini_me1@tonwtweakers or whatever…his listings seem too good to be true gearwise, but affirmative on the price rapeage.
He seems to be the only one that has regular access to 2600’s 2500’s 55’s, odysseys, minis, octave cats etc. I am subscribed to his price lists and I will gladly send you one. He STILL asks 4000 for Taurus 1’s even though all the other market prices are substantially lower. He was not interested in my 921a, didnt want to sell me a 921b.
I find that whole operation to be a major red flag.
I wouldn’t worry too much. Your level of contribution is not at all questionable. Other folks sell here too.
What got minime123/tonetweakers in trouble was threatening people through private message who dared to criticize his tactics. I got one of those pms from him and I reported him.
