What happened to OS 3.6

Ok, thanks in advance for those that are will to help us newbies. I have downloaded the XL_3.6_Beta from the links provided above. Expanding the download I get four files, XL_Bank_360_A, B, C and D, with a May 30, 2016 file date.

What exactly are contained in these files. I am assuming a beta update to the OS. Do these represent also represent patch files as well or is that just a peculiarity in the nomenclature. I know this is probably very elemental but I am new to the Moog world with my XL and I want to be very careful as I do not want to do anything to “Brick” my synth.

Also is there any outline or “How To” regarding the update procedure. I do appreciate any and all guidance.

One more question, and thanks for everyones indulgence, can you revert to OS Version 3.5 if you have version 3.6 installed? I am having and issue with the “Edit” button on my XL not working and thinking is might be a OS/software issue. Thanks everyone again.

Do we follow the same 3.5 instructions when going from older 3.6 to new 3.6? B-D-A-C?

I followed those instructions and it worked fine. Far from being a buggy beta, it works great.

BTW,
here’s the link for the update instruction:
http://forum.moogmusic.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=22525#p137190

Of course you can load an older version but it makes no sense for me.

Have fun,
Rudi

Thanks RL! I’m going to run the update this morning. Strange, LivePsy ran the update as B-D-A-C and it worked. Your instructions from that 2014 post says to run B-A-C-D. Does it matter?

Hi benulous

No, when there’s no ERROR message after power on everything is fine.
The Voyager always checks the OS files A,C and D after power on and if there would be a wrong bit you would see an error after power on. The reason to start with bank B has to do with the LCD contrast and it’s better to start with bank B (this is the boot system).
Have fun,
Rudi

I understand the version from May 2016 should have a different number from the 2010 version ain’t it? Something like 3.6.1 if there is nothing new but some fixes…

I have some questions:

  1. What differences are there between OS 3.6 and 3.5?

  2. Is 3.6 not available at MoogMusic.com simply because it is a beta version, and if so, is a final version going to be available at some point?

  3. Does MoogMusic.com have anything to do with OS 3.6 or is it a personal side project of RL?

    Thanks

Hi DonatDude,

I fixed two bugs: the MIDI in Velocity bug and the touch surface A bug (50%/100% amount settings).
I’m working the last 6 years from time to time on the OS and I guess I forgot some differences.
Here are a few new functions:
MIDI Enables
MIDI clock output
Storing with pressing 2x the MASTER button is selectable
MIDI Controllers for the ENV Gate foot switch is selectable
Pressing ENTER only for changes of the ext. input pot is selectable
.

.
Greg, help me out here

Yes, yes, Greg, help him out! I’m interested to see what all got updated, too! I’m assuming some changes happened between 2010 3.6 and 2016 3.6?

Actually, I got a OS 3.6 with a date of 12/10/10 today from Moog Music tech support which they stated was not a beta. That made sense to me as the version I had was a 12/06/10 version of 3.6. I am sure my XL shipped with that 3.6 version. Its not anywhere on their website as far as I know. I was working with tech support to resolve an “EDIT” button failure on my XL

Also, I updated my XL with the May, 2016 version with the instructions provided using SysEx librarian on my Mac. Worked like a charm. No issues. Complete success!

The update file order is:

  1. go to the MASTER page “Receive Update” and send bank “B”.

  2. then if the Voyager asks for bank “D” leave “NO” and press ENTER.

  3. in the MASTER menu go to “Receive Update” and send bank “A”.

  4. now when the Voyager asks for bank “C” select “YES” and ENTER and
send bank “C” to the Voyager. Do the same thing with bank “D”.

Just let the Voyager tell you what it wants. In step 2, you can say yes when it asks for bank D, in my experience it displays “checksum error”. But no harm done. Then afterwards, step through the panel and master menus, I think it is pretty clear what each option does. 3.6 seems solid and the name ‘beta’ shouldn’t scare you off.

Hi all, I try to update from 3.5 to 3.6 according to the “how to” explanations. Unfortunately I get an error message that the system upload failed (system exclusive transfer has failed). The system asks for bank A to be uploaded, when I try to upload a different one (e.g. B) there is a error message, that the wrong bank was selected. The system requests specifically bank A.

I´m on a Mac and I use Sysex Librarian.

Any help is much appreciated.

Cheers,
Chris

Hallo Schlabadiwutz (geiler Name),
what MIDI interface are you using?
Rudi

Hi Rudi,

I´m using the “X midi1x1 Tab” midi interface from E-mu.

Hi Chris,

This one has no own drivers and will not work, sorry.
Rudi

Thanks for the feedback. I have a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 with midi and I´ll try this one tonight. Will let you know if this works.

Unfortunately it still fails to update. Any additional ideas?

Many thanks.

Hi Chris,
is it still this message “system exclusive transfer has failed” or a different message?
