What comes in the box with a new T3? Should there be a printed manual or a CD?
The original owner said he ‘couldn’t remember— but will look around and send it to me if he finds it’ I just got the instrument in the original box with styrofoam ~ no documents, or anything else.
maybe addendum/errata aswell.. but thats redundant if you have the latest FW.. there was a local power cable supplied with mine aswell (Australia)
for what its worth i remember reading that Moog wont honor the warranty unless it can be returned in the original packaging (or road case i assume).. thats probably not a hardline rule though. but if it’s still in its warranty period its worth thinking about i guess..
no CD’s or anything. the Certificate/Letter is nice.
Congratulations on geting a Taurus, mine arrived about 4 weeks ago now and i couldnt be happier with it. Its my very first analogue/hardware synth and the live potential of it just blows me away.. Very unique piece, i dont see myself ever parting with it.
Actually in this case I wasn’t concerned about the warranty*, however, I would absolutely like to register at http://www.taurusbass.com/ and buy whatever hard copy manual & T3 PCB shirt or whatever items are available.
I realize it was not ideal buying my T3 like this. In retrospect, I probably could have and should have paid a lot less all things considered. The guy drove it in and delivered it to me from a town about 90 minutes away. The ‘scuff’ he described on craiglist turned out to be a big chunk dented into a wood side-panel, but this was love at first sight. I completely lost all common sense and felt like I was rescuing an abandoned animal. Once we unboxed it and set it up between the two Voyagers right in front of me in my studio, like that ~ that was it. Game Over, Man!

FYI I have a two-year warranty with the XL but Sweetwater isn’t selling T3s anymore ~ the warranty situation here with Canadian local dealers and distribution is not ideal. In that respect it doesn’t seem like all that much has changed since those Taco Bell Analog Days http://muse.jhu.edu/login?auth=0&type=summary&url=/journals/notes/v062/62.2menoche.pdf
If you want to register at http://www.taurusbass.com/ you’ll need the unique code that was printed on the certificate/letter that should have been in the box when the original owner opened it.
If he cant find it, i suppose Moog may still be able to dig it up if you give them your registration number, maybe?
I’ll be intrested to hear your thoughts about what makes the T3 unique after you get to know it a bit better, I love it, but I dont have other units to compare it to, so i’m sure atleast some of the charm must be lost on me..
I don’t understand how anyone could let a scratch like that happen to their T3. Even my own doesn’t have a major scratch like that, and I left it in the hands of UPS…TWICE! The case is beat to hell, but the Taurus itself has a very minor scratch on the wood panel, not nearly as bad as this!
What’s the serial number? It has the latest firmware? You probably won’t find a complete T3, because only synth nuts keep their manuals and paperwork, and synth nuts don’t sell T3’s GENERALLY speaking.
My T-3 just got it’s 1st ding at a gig last week - almost identical to the one pictured above.
If you gig with your Taurus, dings are going to happen - there’s just no getting around it. I bought mine specifically to play live, so I take the inevitible bumps & bruises as par for the course…
Yes this this little dent in my sweet Taurus cheek is just a dimple, really ~ a beauty mark that gives it a little extra Mojo. It kinda reminds me of Kirk Douglas! It doesn’t need anymore rough treatment, though ~ that’s for sure. I ordered a dustcover from Moog and they processed the order straightaway - it’s already on it’s way and will be arriving soon. I hope somebody down there can find me a manual.
Do you use one of the MOOG road cases or have you found another solution?
I’ve owned two sets of t3’s. Sold my first one when they announced the mintaur Got the mintaur, and was fucking pissed. Not really the same thing. I found it hard to do the same gnarly bass that is super easy to get out of the t3. I was lucky and found a local musci shop who still had 4-5 t3’s new in the box…walked out with one for 1000 cash. Sweetest thing ever.
LUCKY! Still a deal at $1400, but I wish I had got the original registration & manual & T-Shirt!
What serial number did you get? ~ and where was that?
You must live in a good city for synths!
I dont know what the serial number is but I can find out later if you really want me to.
I live in Arizona… the synth-ness of this area kind of blows, which is why I probably got a good deal. I got it form a music store/pawn store. It’s called Music Brokers. I check in there every so often to see if anything nifty shows up, which isnt very often. I wouldnt drive all the way to down town phoenix if they hurried up and put up their site inventory
Also, I do not know how necessary the manual really is except for the midi information and calibration stuff. All of which you can download. I guess if having the manual is a thing for you? Either way the importantpart is you have a t3. I still love how meand and gnarly the bass sounds. Sometimes I have to put it on its on track in the DAW b/c it overpowers the mix. Still, love it.
update: Whoo Hoo! Thank You MOOG Music, for sending me the Taurus 3 Manual!
I was in Tucson last year and I totally LOVE it. Would go there again just to eat at Mi Nidito. http://www.minidito.net/ Passed very quickly through Phoenix - didn’t see much except for the airport rental car return
YES!!! ~ I am NERDY that way ~ about the Manuals (& Serial #s too) I tend to go to extremes, completely ignoring them and then devoutly pouring over them ~ I have them loaded as .pdfs in my iPAD plus I keep the hard copies handy. Not just the MOOGs but I like to have one for every drum machine, audio interface and/or whatever hardware or software gadgets I use.
My Voyager manual is totally dog-eared ~ I am (still) reading it to pieces. I was surprised that out of all of the Moog manuals the XL has the fewest (none) examples of further connectivity etc that the Moogerfoogers handbooks excel in ~ i actually LOST one of those ~ but those CV examples are gold in the Voyager and Phatty and Minitaur dox
