I have a Rhodes 73 MK1 that I would like to trade for a moog liberation. Cash can be added on either side, depending on the condition and color, etc… I am located in Florida and would prefer local, but I’m sure we can work something out. Email me if you are interested. reed@4st8.com
I am not solely interested in the liberation, either. If you have any vintage analog synth that you would like to trade, all serious offers will be considered.
Bump (: This is still available.
I don’t want to burst your bubble but I seriously doubt you’ll find someone to trade a vintage Moog for a costly to maintain vintage Rhodes. Granted a vintage Moog may cost money to maintain too, but you’ll find dozens of modern keyboards with very convincing Rhodes emulations (Roland, Korgs, Clavia) but not of them can closely emulate a Moog both in sound texture and functionality. Same goes for the Phatty , without the maintenance costs.
Because shipping the Rhodes costs a lot of money, shooting for a local deal lessens your chances even further. Posting here does not help much either, you’ll find mostly people pretty much attached to their Moog Gear.
Nothing is ever impossible so I wish you good luck, you’ll need it.
I recently did a similar trade. I scoured the lands for a Moog dealer willing to trade (turns out this one was also a pawn shop). I sent tons of pics and when the time came, I delivered the Rhodes 3+ hours away. It depends on how bad you want to deal. I miss the Rhodes, but my Little Phatty Stage II is much easier to lug around and store.

Pawn shops don’t count… I’ll bet he’ll be stuck with it for a long time… loll
Now seriously, I went that road myself. I was offered a vintage keyboard collection as very low prices. I was tempted for a while, but finally wisely adviced against, they all needed work and I had nightmares of money flying out the window. Got a Kurzweil instead.
Got many vintage Moogs however. Got one? Bring it on… I pay cash!
Aaaah Kurzweil… ![]()
I know it’s a hard trade to make, but I’m not in any huge rush, so I figure it may come along.
Plus, as far as maintenance, I just completely restored the internal part of it.
you might do better selling the Rhodes first, then getting an LP with the moola- limiting your prospective buyers to guys with Moogs that might want to trade for a Rhodes, who are in driving distance…
just my opinion-
I’d do long distance trades, but would prefer local. Also, I have stuff on a few forums and would trade for anything from a DSI mopho, to sequential circuits gear. All plus or minus cash, of course.
You have been visiting vintagesynth.com , have you not ? ![]()
Yes. I practically live on that site now. haha
Portamental,
There are a lot of people who would be willing to take a Rhodes of the right quality for a Moog. I would consider it if I had a phatty. The Rhodes aren’t that difficult to maintain provided the unit in question is in good shape.
Its all about the combination of both that is absolutely wonderful though.
I rather thought that trading a rhodes for a Moog was trading down, but thats just me.
Pictures might help!
The way I looked at it was, a 1980’s rhodes (constant maintenance and one sound) for a new in box LP (tons of tonal options) from a Moog dealer (also a pawn shop) was a no brainer. LP sells used all day long for $850 ish. Rhodes buyers want a steal or PERFECTION.

I’m probably just going to sell the rhodes to get some cash to buy a synth.
