I know everyone’s probably sick of the invariable comparisons between “now” and “then”…but. As a proud owner of Voyager Sig #230 (cherry) AND a Model D (#10558) one thing I’ve noticed that makes the Model D more “playable” (totally subjective here!) is that the envelopes don’t retrigger until all the keys are lifted.
This allows great, musical phrasing as the level of volume and filter cutoff stay raised in different amounts depending on how close together your note attacks are, producing some almost “velocity-like” effects.
I’ve been unable to duplicate this effect on my Voyager. Any suggestions [pot-mapping, CV patching (I have the VX-351 and a CP-251 at my disposal), etc???]
I don’t own a Voyager or Model D but I can do the same type of ‘phrasing’ on my Little Phatty.
In the ADVANCED PRESET mode I can edit the GATE to LEG ON, LEG OFF, LEG RESET, when legato is on I get this phrasing effect. There might be a similar function on the Voyager.
The good old Minimoog has single trigger, low note priority.
You can set the Voyager to these two modes in the EDIT menu 3.3 (Keyboard Modes) and 3.4 (Trigger Modes).
This setting is stored per patch.
You might change it, if needed, on all memory location by using the Voyager Sound-Tower Editor (if I remember right).
I knew there was a part of this I forgot to mention in my original post…on the Model D, using the DECAY switch/pedal seems to “amplify” this phrasing effect.
Conventional legato:
/\
/ \
/ \_______
/ \
n n n n n n (n is note on)
Model D phrasing with Decay pedal and legato
/\
/ \
/ \/\
/ \/\___
/ \
n n dn dn d (n is note on, d is press down on decay pedal)
It’s the SECOND graph, where the amplitude of the decay segment rises above the sustain level using the decay pedal that I’m unable to do on the Voyager…maybe the ADSR of the Voyager is different than the ADS(D) of the Model D so this can’t happen???
[I did (to answer the other posts) of course switch on single trigger and low note priority in the Voyager.]
