Voyager OS 3.4

So I looked today and saw that Voyager OS 3.4 has been out for a few days it would seem! Why no announcement?

Anyway…the instructions say (I’m guessing wrongly) to install the sysex banks in the following order: BACD but I’m assuming they should really be ABCD? This is as described in Voyager_3_4_USER GUIDE.pdf

Looks like some nice features…thanks!

What is/will be GLOBAL CURSOR MODE?

Even though it seemed awkward the instructions worked as described - bank B first…

Upgrades have always been in a non alpha sequential order. I’m not sure why.

Well that’s great, but I can’t locate it…anywhere. Could someone post a link please ? I really wish there was a search frame on this site… Will be interested to see what’s new. Thanks in advance.

Keep the lightning away from my home.
Thanks-
Magnet

holycrap i’m really feelin’ this update
just made a bunch of really nice sounds

Great news for 3.4 ! Thanks Rudi !

2 questions anyway on this update:

1/ Until 3.3, Quick Mode allowed to use both ways: direct preset change with +1/-1 and delayed change with Ext Audio Pot (waiting for Enter). This update won’t alow it any more. Am I correct ?

2/ What is the relation between new “enhanced pot resolution” and display ? Does it mean that if we display parameters on screen new pot resolution will be deactivated ?

Thanks !

Yes.

Yes, when there are more than one (fine resolution) pot active the display would toggle between the values. That’s the reason.
Have fun,
Rudi

I believe the announcement will be made at the Summer NAMM show, which starts today (June 20). Looks like the update was posted a few days in advance…

Will I be able to do the transfer with the Voyager Editor? I don’t have this one yet, but since I’d like to buy I thought I should ask first.

Also, will the Voyager freak out if the transfer is not carried out properly?

I found a manual bug:

I only get this ‘LOCAL OFF’ message when switching off the pots or switches (of cause only when I work the pots (excluding the fine tune) or switches). But setting the modwheel to “off” does not show a message when its used or when I turn the Amount of the mod-wheel modulation buss as described in the manual addendum quote above.

Also when using pressure for shaping, it would be nice to get a notice when applying some heavy aftertouch. Or when changing the shaping switch to “pressure”.

Rudi,

the new OS is another great new feature extention as the other OS versions.

THANKS !!!

But I would have been more user friendly, if we would not have to change all our presets that use the Touch Surface. Right now these sounds (at least here on my Voyager) default on using the new Touch Surface LFO S&H function on all sounds. So all sounds get now a somewhat zipper noise like sound effect when playing the Touch Surface. I had to reprogram my sounds to set the new Touch Surface LFO S&H to “off” on all four Touch Surface destinations. This also include the factory sounds. So if a shop updates its Voyager for the latest OS without reprogramming the Touch Surface using sounds, the new user and potential buyer will think this is caused by some real lazy programming and performance of the digital parts of the Voyager. And this is definitely not true at all because of your great work, Rudi.
A new item for doing this reprogramming automatically in the Master menues “Factory Setup 1.4” list would have helped. Ofcause, this function then had to be used before loading the new factory presets for the OS 3.4 (that are going into the edit buffer and do not overwrite existing sounds). But this was always true for the new added features.

And btw: could you please give us a new SysEx documentation?

FWIW on my voyager select,
previously saved presets didn’t default to 'touch pad s/h ON".
the only presets that had it on were the new ones i downloaded for this 3.4 update.

Is this also for the RME?

And if so, does this update address the zipper noise problem when turning an OSC the frequency knob and the filter cutoiff knob simultaneously.
Seems silly such a high end synth would have this issue. And why doesn’t the regular voyager have this problem?

This is the only bummer about the rme. I can’t do real bomb and plane sounds because the zipper noise. my real minimoog has no problems with it though.

Hopefully this will be addressed soon.

The update is for the keyboard Voyagers only.

OK, lets spot the difference of the upgrade to get the “why”.

I updated my Voyager Performer with the new 7-bank hardware from OS version 3.3 (SMD components on a smaller then the through-hole PCB).

The sounds were sorted using the Minimoog Voyager Editor Librarian software of SoundTower at some point after the OS 3.1 software and new 7-bank hardware was installed.

Patches created with OS 1.5 to 3.3 got this problem.

The LCD-Contrast option seems to be removed… :open_mouth:

Found it, it has been moved to the Panel menu (2.4)

sorry can’t help till

all i know is my voyager is a relatively new select series.

most presets were there to begin with. about 2 banks or so carried over from an RME I once had - it had operating system starting from 3. something i’m guessing.

Many thanks Mark M.! And Rudi, of course !
Thanks so much !
