use TRS insert cable on Voyager MIXER OUT/FILTER IN to put MIDIMurf inline with Voyager raw VCO audio before it goes to the filters
this not only allows you to control resonant bands of the raw VCO audio but the resonant bands are also processed by the Voyager filters
stir gently
serves one to thousands
This is one of the most useful devices I have found for the Voyager’s insert jack. You can control resonant peaks to get timbres not possible with the Voyager alone. Very cool in fixed or patterned mode, and with the VX-351 you can use the Voyager LFO as the clock to the Murf’s pattern generator.
Very similar to the fixed filter bank from the modular with the addition of MIDI, automation and pattern generation.
The Murf is my favorite fooger. I spent the last week exploring it’s sonic capabilities. For one thing, it shines as a tremolo unit. The mids pattern number 4 is the master of them all. Short and simple, so well defined, this pattern is as many sequences as you can set up-down combinations on all 8 filter sliders. That adds up to tremolo flavours.
I am sure people buy it thinking : ‘cool, it now comes with midi as a bonus, i’ll hook it up one of these days.’ Well, please do. It becomes an instrument of it’s own when hooked up to a large keyboard (gotta read the fine print, making a flowchart helps). There are a few parameters that you can control only with midi. While hooked up, it’s hard to resist sending in a few new patterns from the editor. They program fast. 8 x 64 variable length tracks of filter processing, that’s different from your typical note sequencer. And a lot of fun. I had a bunch of twenty ready in an hour. Geometrical patterns, from simple to complex, with lots of spacing. One of them, the ‘double offset arrows’ will walk you so deep in far-away-land you almost find yourself lucky to have an ex-wife ringing the phone
Nice as an insert effect with the Voyager, the Murf is my favorite EW+ companion. It would be nice to have a switch on the EW+ to disable the volume antenna on sound output level alone, but still send the out CV, so it could be used as input with the Murf while playing the EW+.
