Very tight power connector + confirmed OSC2 knob miscalibration (service-only fix)

Hi all,

I’m looking to gather feedback from other Messenger owners regarding two issues I’ve encountered, one confirmed by Moog and one still unclear.

1. Power connector extremely tight
On my unit, the power connector is very hard to remove from the synth’s power socket. This goes beyond a snug or secure fit: unplugging it requires enough force that I’m concerned about long-term stress on the connector or PCB.

I contacted Moog’s support AI chatbot, which stated that this behavior is not normal and recommended returning the unit. However, I’ve seen posts on Gearspace suggesting this may be intentional by design, possibly to prevent accidental power loss.

I’d really appreciate input from other owners:

  • Is your Messenger’s power connector similarly difficult to remove?

  • Has Moog officially stated anywhere that this tight tolerance is intentional?

  • Does this appear related to the cable connector itself or the synth’s socket tolerance?

2. OSC2 FREQ & MOD Amount knob calibration (confirmed issue)

My unit also exhibits the known OSC2 calibration issue, where the FREQ and MOD Amount knobs are visually misaligned relative to the noon position. To be clear, the knobs do not jump or behave erratically, the issue is purely an offset between the physical knob position and the actual parameter midpoint.

There is another thread on this forum where Moog confirmed that:

  • This calibration cannot be performed by the user

  • The issue requires servicing to correct

Given that this affects basic parameter reference points and has no user-accessible calibration procedure, this is the primary reason my Messenger is being returned for replacement rather than repair.

Overall, I really like the instrument and this isn’t a complaint post I’m just trying to distinguish between:

  • intentional design choices,

  • early production tolerances,

  • and genuine QC issues that warrant return or service.

Any firsthand input from other owners would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
