Using the VX 351 with the CP 251 and Voyager

Hi everyone,
I’ve been fortunate enough to be gifted a 351 and a 251 for Christmas. I’m a little confused as how to use them together and wondered if there’s anyone out there who could kindly guide me through some creative patching?
Season’s greetings to everyone. Kind regards, Barrie.

Hello there

Have you joined up to GregAE’s group, Knob Tweak? It’s an excellent source of information:

There’s also some patches in the back of the Voyager manual (an appendix detailing the 351’s operation).

The 351 gives you CV outputs which can be processed by the 251 and either sent back to the Voyager’s CV inputs or on to other gear.

Some patches off the top of my head:

Use the multiple and mixer together to generate exponential envelopes from the Voyager’s own envs.

Clock the 251’s sample and hold with the KB gate or touchscreen (you can also do this without the 251)

Mix multiple LFOs for interesting waveforms.

Apply lag to the Pitch CV; this could be at a different rate to the glide setting on the panel. It’s also a way to get filter glide if your Voyager isn’t modded to do so.

Thanks so much for your very prompt reply… I’m very much a rookie after having spent some time with a ARP back in the early eighties so the most simple advice is welcome. Always wanted a moog but couldn’t afford one until now.
Thanks once again.
Barrie

Invert the keyboard action

Use microtonal tuning.

Etc., etc. – limitless possibilities

The best way is just to get in there with some patch cords.

There is “only” one rule: don’t plug more than one CV source into a multiple. For this job, use the mixer instead.

Have fun
