Help I can’t decide between a Freqbox or one of the Murfs. So far I have MFs 101 through 104z + a CP-251, a 3 VCO .com modular with both the 12 and 24db filter, a v.1 sherman fb, and an Electroharmonix bass synth. More oscillator madness or more filter madness I’m leaning towards the Freqbox to add some flexibility to the VCO section of the .com.
What kind of music do you play? If you’re into drones/ambient pads etc. the MuRFs will work very well, but they’re a bit limited if you aren’t playing sustained sounds.
You’ll probably get more out of the Freqbox, a la sonic mayhem. Especially with the FM knob, I think that’s my favourite. Of course, it doubles as an extra LFO or oscillator to boot.
But if you had both the Freqbox and the MuRF… (the Spanish Acquisition continues… )
Yeah, I like slow prodding music, from ambient to dubstep and minimal techno ala Basic Channel. Eventually I’ll end up with all of the Moogerfoogers, just don’t know which one I want to get right now.
I placed my order for a freqbox. In another thread I asked about a cheap reverb pedal. I decided to leave the trash at the store and get a tc electronic nova reverb. I love it when musicians friend has the 12 month no interest payment plan with thier paltinum card.
While you wait for your FreqBox you can listen to some samples of it at http://earsmack.com
Since I’ve made these samples I tend to play my bass through it and then through the MF lowpass filter. Sound great together and give the bass a nice dirt.
Yea, makes sense. But it would be much easier to just let the Murf handle that task and then you could send the output of that signal to the Sherman for further sonic mayhem

I’ve listened to the samples on that site and watched the videos with Jordan and the LP+Freqbox. All I can say is Droooool! What can I say, I’m a sucker for Moog!
I’ve toyed around a lot with my bass + distortion + MF 101 and it produces some mean sounds.
Can you make any more samples with the MF-107 and bass guitar? You can include the MF-101 as well. I also play the bass with an MF-101 and the MF-105B, and I am deciding between the MF-102 and MF-107 for my next purchase.
Personally, I would recommend the 107 over the 102 for bass. I know some bass players like the ringmod (and I do for subtle stuff) but I think the fuzz of the freqbox is more useful - for me anyway. The fb adds some nice rich harmonics (without changing the pitch so much as a ringmod) that then gives the filter (mf lp or frostwave resonator) something more interesting to work with.
I’ll try to put together a couple samples - one of the fb and one of the rm with my bass pumping through it - mind you - I’m a noodler but it should give you the idea
Thank you very much for the examples of both the MF102 and MF107 with bass guitar. Actually, I liked the MF102 examples for the bass better, especially near the beginning when it was a little more subtle. The Freqbox sounded a little too extreme as an audio effect (at least for my taste) on the bass guitar (however, it would be perfect if it actually could track the pitch of the bass guitar).
But, I have another possible use for the Freqbox, as I can also use it as another oscillator for my Arp Solus, using the CV out of the Solus to control the frquency of the MF-107. I could then put the signal out of the MF107 into the MF101 and out to amplifier or send the output of the MF107 to the external in of the Solus so that I could have envelope control of the filter and VCA.
So, I think that my next purchase for my bass pedalboard would be the MF102 (not that I have any room to put another MF pedal on the board) , but I could see purchasing a MF-107 to augment my analog synthesizer setup.
btw I don’t mind your bass playing, it probably is better than me on a keyboard!
glad the examples helped. I had the RM first but then had to get the FB when it came out. As I listen back to the RM bass sample I can see some uses for it as well that I may not have thought of before. Maybe I was too hard on the RM initially
Thankyou zbq! Now that I have some free time I can rearrange my set up for more room and get some recording done. Once I get a chance I’ll post some examples that provide a good contrast to the yours.
