Theremini!

Looks like I’ll finally be buying a Theremin.

It looks cool. But is it a toy or is it for serious music production? I would rather have a laser harp. Give me a laser harp at the same cost and I will buy 2 of them.

nice tool, but only one cv out?
the Etherwave plus :
Pitch & Volume CV Outputs - control a different CV parameter with each hand
Gate Output - trigger envelopes and other events

I am very puzzled why they didn’t also put a gate output on it, that would make it a much more useful CV controller.

Does anyone know if it can function as a midi controller?

only USB midi.
a midi out for the Voyager would be nice!

Probably to meet the price point. Absence of gate doesn’t surprise me, but no volume CV might be limiting (though I realize this is an entry-level product and I still want it so I’ll deal with it). Sound generation on a theremin is, essentially, volume and pitch. The “gate” is your hand on the volume antenna. My favorite way to control a synthesizer is with an EWI wind controller feeding pitch to pitch and volume to filter cutoff. It would be fun to do that with a theremin, too.

You want the amplitude CV? Either be willing to pay a higher price or send your sound through an Envelope Follower. You can get a gate off of the EF if you want.

Can’t have both.

The amplitude antenna CV is probably there on the board and might just need a jack…

Has there been any further word on this?

It doesn’t seem to be available yet but you can pre-order at places like Sweetwater.

I am continuing exercises of “Theremini” .
It is used in the Live Tour of this term.
Theremini is pleasant.

Eri.

I am curious if these “animoog presets” will be editable via USB/midi. Or if we can use patches created in Animoog on our ipads.

Does anyone know if the Theremini’s analog heterodyning oscillator can be used as the sound source, and not simply to control the pitch? Or is all sound generation from the Animoog engine?

Maybe patch number 1; Classic theremin, might be that one? Can someone from Moog confirm this?

In case anyone cares I gave my first impression review of the Theremini over on Muff Wigglers

I have a few questions.

Can you tweak sounds from a app,Animoog or an editor?

Could I use a USB to Midi host (Kenton) ? Then I should be able to use my MicroBrute’s CV outs to ???. Or what about using one of those slick audio out to MIDI converters out of one of the outputs?

What are people going for a case?

As always, Thank you

I just bought my Theramini and I was told via Guitar Center (where I purchased it from) that I could use it as a MIDI controller on my Garageband and Logic Pro X and also my Roland BK7m. However I am having trouble doing so. I am new to MIDI and I need someone to walk me through so I can use it on my Gargaeband or Logic. Anyone willing to help? I would be very thankful.

Hi,

my Theremini is not accepted as a USB MIDI device at all. In firmware update mode, i can see it as a USM device, but not MIDI. This is a MAC based experience. But it seems that not only it does not accept MIDI in as stated in specs, it has no MIDI output, too!

kind regards
