Theremin Trill Trick

Hi Gang,

I’m being a “good” Dad and am trusting my 4th Grade son to take my precious Theremin to school
as part of his Science Fair project about capacitance.

In the short time he’s had it he’s already come up with a cool performance trick:

On an Etherwave Plus, move the jumper so that the Headphone Out is set to “Pitch Preview” mode.

Now, if you use the Headphone Output jack to go to an amp, you can touch the Volume Antenna
(with no change in volume) to get an instant shift in pitch. Rapidly tapping the Volume Antenna
gives you a very musical trill.

If you sweep the pitch up or down while trilling you get an effect not unlike the square wave LFO
on the MF-102 Ring Modulator.

Thanks for posting this cool idea. I’m new to the theremin and haven’t yet made the “field modification” to upgrade my Standard to a Plus, but hope to in the next few months, and will try it then.

You are truly being a good Dad. I’m not sure if I could be such a good Mom if one of my daughters wanted to take my theremin to school. I don’t think it’s going to happen (too nerdy), so maybe I’m safe.
