Did Keith Emerson really use both the Lyra and the Apollo proto-synths on the whole “Karn Evil 9” suite from the 1973 Emerson, Lake & Palmer album Brain Salad Surgery?
The suite consists of:
First Impression (Part 1)
First Impression (Part 2)
Second Impression (instrumental)
Third Impression (contains computer voices)
Also, would the Minitmoog/Satellite/Multimoog have the same exact sounds as the Lyra and the Polymoog the same exact sounds as the Apollo?
First impression all of the synth leads are Modular Moog, in the organ solo section(part 2) Keith is playing the bass line on the MiniMoog with his left hand while soloing with his right.
Second impression is a MiniMoog set to sound like a steel drum.
Third impression the “trumpet” leads are the Lyra, the polyphonic synth lines are the Apollo. The “computer voice” is Keith’s going through the ring modulator( I think) . The sequence at the end is the Modular Moog
