I’ve been combing the manual and messing with settings trying to configure the following:
Sub 37 MIDI outputs monophonic “lowest note” while
internal plays “last note” for standard legato playing.
Basically I’m trying to have only the lowest held note transmit MIDI out while internally the synth responds to last note or even highest note.
Have any of you Sub 37 gurus been able to achieve this?
Thanks!
Here’s my take on your question: You’re asking if the Sub 37 can send out only the low MIDI note, while playing internally the high or last note. I think the answer is no and yes, respectively.
Like many keyboard synthesizers, the Sub 37 can be thought of as being a general keyboard controller attached to a synthesizer module. In this case, all the MIDI messages from the keyboard can be sent out the MIDI ports, both USB and DIN. There’s no filtering; no selection of what keyboard notes are sent out. What can be filtered is: keyboard, wheels, panel, and program change. These are set in the MIDI menu, Out Filters. (Yeah, and some other stuff like MIDI clocks.)
For the second part of your question, the “internal” synth module can respond to low, high, and last MIDI notes. It doesn’t care where they come from: keyboard, USB MIDI, or DIN MIDI. This is set in two places:
- Preset Menu - KB Priority - low, high, last
- Global Menu - KB Priority - low, high, last, preset
The global menu setting overrides all the preset settings, unless ‘preset’ is chosen.
So, it’s up to the external devices that you are controlling to look at the MIDI notes and pick the low/high/last one that you want. And it’s also up to the internal synth engine to pick the low/high/last note to play. Toss in the Duo mode, and you get another decision branch.
Maybe route the MIDI output through USB to the computer and back? Do the MIDI note filtering there, ship it back to the Sub 37, and let it echo the USB MIDI in to the DIN MIDI out? A very round-about workaround, if there’s any software that will do that for you.
Don’t take this answer as authoritative - I’m sure someone will come along and prove me wrong. Good luck!
