Good day. I’ve owned my Sub Phatty for a week and I’m really loving the sound and features. One thing, however, is driving me nuts. When I activate the panel, no matter what I try, I can’t seem to get the filter to close all the way down. It emits some sound even when the cutoff is at 20hz.
I have tried fiddling with filter envelope, EG amount and KB amount settings without any help. Now this is my first hardware synth so I guess it’s just something really simple that I am not getting, because if I select certain factory presets, I can shut off all sound with the filter, meaning that the problem is most likely nothing to do with the hardware, but with my inability to understand something very simple. Maybe I accidentally have put on some weird shift function? Any help very appreciated
I’ve read about this on the forums before and recall that general opinion held that it should be regarded as a filter cut off calibration fault. With this in mind I would contact Moog support for advice.
If I kill all modulations on the cutoff (EG, LFO, keyboard) I hear nothing when the filter is all the way down in 4-pole mode. Even with full sustain on the VCA envelope. So something is wrong on yours or you missed to zero ongoing some modulation. So be sure to test this in ACTIVE PANEL mode, to actually see all main setting as they are sued. And not be fooled by the stored values that differ from the physical pot position.
Ok problem seems to be solved so far. Somehow I was not able to switch the filter pole mode through the shift functions to 3 or 4 pole mode, and it was on 1 or 2 pole mode by default (or I had somehow managed to change it by accident). I just ran the software editor for the first time and switched to 4 pole mode. Now, as if by magic, I can switch to four pole mode through the hardware shift mode.
So to all future readers of this topic, it seems there was no faulty cutoff knob or any other hardware related troubles with my Sub Phatty, it was either my incompetence or some weird bug that did not allow me to switch to 4 or 3 pole filter modes without first connecting my Phatty to the software editor. Now it works as it should. Thanks everyone
