I’m trying to backup my moog little phatty, I know this is done via a MIDI interface and I need some software on my computer to recieve the sysex message. However, I would like some help knowing what software to use and what the exact process is.
I currently have Sysex Librarian software (running a Mac so can’t use MIDI OX as people have recommended on these forums), and a Focusrite Profire 14 interface. I’ve connected the interface to my computer via firewire and then from the interface to the moog via MIDI, I can see that it is connected (as “new external device” shows up in sysex librarian), but that’s as far as I’ve got.
I’d really appreciate a step by step guide on how to do this,
Thanks
Sam
The LP manual addresses the SYSEX commands on pages 41-42.
You’ll need to read the instructions for your SYSEX software to determine how to set it to receive/record, and make sure it is recognizing your MIDI interface.
(BTW - what version of the LP do you have? The Stage II has MIDI over USB, so you don’t necessarily need to use a separate MIDI interface. I’m referring to the Stage II anytime I mention specific pages in the manual, menu commands, etc.)
Once everything is connected properly, here are the steps to follow:
Set your SYSEX software to receive/record.
Initiate the preset bulk data dump from the LP SYSEX menus. The LP will display a message when the dump is complete.
That’s pretty much it! Provided everything is connected and communicating properly, the SYSEX file containing the LP presets is now available from your software.
Note that you can send individual presets or the entire preset list when doing a SYSEX data dump from the LP.
Sending SYSEX “to” the LP is even easier ~
Just set your software to start sending the SYSEX file; you don’t need to select any special menu options on the LP. The LP will display a message when it has received a complete SYSEX message.

PS -
Did you figure out the ARP issues you mentioned in one of your other threads?
Thanks for this. Managed to perform a backup and firmware update. Had a bit of a nightmare which I’ll document here incase anyone has the same issue.
Whilst performing a software update, an error came up saying “Cycle Power” I turned off and on and then a new error message was displayed saying “send firmware sx code error 2” - and NOTHING worked on the moog at all. After a small panic, I realised I was sending MIDI messages via MIDI cables which is slower than USB, I replaced the MIDI cables with USB MIDI and it worked fine!! Panic Over.
This software update has fixed my issue with not being able to turn on and off the arp via MIDI - it all works perfectly now, thanks.
